Lowering the vehicle

Hey Guys;

I'm in the process of getting some information on lowering the car. I don;t want to install the Motons. They just seem just way to expensive. I was told the easiest and most effective way to lower the car is by using Eibach coils. Easy install and achives the desired effect.

They told me that by using the Eibach the car will be lowered 1 inch.

Is there any engineering concerns about lowering the car? For those who have done this how is the ride ? And would you recommend it?

Doggy, as far as I understand if you install shorter springs on the stock shocks, you will blow them. That's why mostly everyone here who lowers the car has to go the way of replacing the whole suspension (motors, KW, Aldan)

I find myself in the same situation, I don't wan to spend 5K just for a lower look.

PartsRack has those cheap caps that lower the car .6 of an inch. not much, but the best bang for the buck. I've yet to see a pic of stock suspension with these installed though.

I got to agree with Zorro here. If you use lower springs you really should use shorter shocks too. Other wise the shocks piston will be sitting an inch lower and will perhaps bottom out and "blow them" as Zorro said.

I thought they fixed the Aldans, they are cheaper. Also, I thought I read that someone else was coming out with some kind of inexpensive lowering suspension package soon....don't remember who.

Even though they are 4g's...I'd buy the Motons every time, they really work well.

I did not know I would need to replace the shocks. Seems like a lot of money for simply a looks factor. Is there any improvement in the ride or handling. And I don't mean on the course but everyday driving?

I have driven a '00 GTS (mine) with Eibachs and a '00 RT (friends) with lowering caps.

I prefer the Eibachs over the lowering caps for a couple reasons. The lowering caps don't change the overall appearance of the car compared to the 1 1/4 drop I got from the Eibachs.

Also the ride is so different. When lowering your car you typically want a firmer ride that works better on the track. The Eibachs offer you this, the caps don't. The Eibach is a progressive spring, therefore as the spring compresses it becomes more firm. The caps do not.

I find the caps produce a bouncy ride and the car tends to bottom more.
Personally, if you are going to go to the trouble of taking your springs off your shocks and re aligning the car. Do it right and either spend the big bucks and do the coil over shock kits or at the very least, Eibachs.

I personally don't like the lowering cap solution.

I found slightly used Eibachs for $200-$300, I can't remember exactly. It was cheap and I don't regret it.

Your alignment is critical though. PM me if you want semi track/road alignment specs. I have helped others here with this and would be happy to help a fellow Canuck!

At one time I felt the same way as you do about the motons. I went the cheaper route and tried shorter springs-had a very bouncy ride and I thougt it was a little dangerous to drive with that set up so I only kept them for about a month.

I broke down and order the motons. One of the best mods Ive had installed. They are worth every dollar payed. I was able to lower my Viper and still have a great ride and handeling is excellent. Reduced wheel hop. My personal openion - I belive the ride and handeling is as good or better than with the stock suspension.

What is so good about the moton club sport is being able to change height compression and rebound.

If you want caps I have a set purchased from parts rack for sale. $130.00 plus shipping. Rear caps were not used the front caps have less than 1000 miles on them. They lower about 1/2 - 5/8 inch.

I just bought the billet aluminum spring lowering caps from JonB at the Partsrack and decided not to install them on my SRT10. They havent even been out of the original box yet and Im selling them. How about $240 and Ill pay the shipping if anyone wants a set. let me know if anyone wants them.

Spend the money on the Motons.

Shop and try to find a used set if necessary.

They are worth every penny and more.

Handling and ride are vastly improved over stock.

The motons are a little pricey, however, you get what you pay for. You will not be disappointed with purchase of a set of motons once you have them installed( looks better/ ride is nicer). I will be posting some pictures of my setup on my 04 SRT-10 White Mamba within the next month....Good Luck and go with the motons.

Yeah, I got mine from the other guy, didn't get helper springs or mounting hardware...paid the same price though. When I lift the car I have to make sure all the springs are in place before I let it down, pain in the ass. :mad:

Sorry Viper X I did get the front and rear rates mixed up-didnt catch it till you brought it to my attention. Anyway these spring rates really seem to work well for my Viper. Hard to beat the motons.

You can get the motons with the complete kit for a little over 3900.

How about $200 for the brand new set of Spring Lowering Caps for an SRT-10. Ill pay the shipping. Still in the JonB (PartsRack) original box.

I might be interested, but I have a question: Are they as strong as the stock caps? ... I mean if they are strong enough after being shaved down by .625", why does Dodge make them so thick as when they are stock?

All I know is that they are made from 1 piece billet aluminum. Very nice looking pieces. I cant speak to their strength but Ive never heard of a failure. :2tu:

when u guys lowered your vipers,do the inside tire get worn out more than the rest of the car.on my benz when i got it lowered i have had it alignmed # of times and it still wears on the inside first,shop told me since its been lowered no way to correct it.

I just been researching this, and I'm just not getting something:

I understand that the 1" lower Eibach springs may blow the (rear) shocks, but it seems there are many other options out there (vs. the KWs, Motons and Aldans that are always suggested) ... PR sells some custom shocks for $995/set, WC sells Eibach springs in any height you request for $80 ea., and SO sells a custom shock set for $2995 ... am I missing something, or are these not also (less expensive) options for lowering an SRT???
