Here is a video of a run from this past Sunday at the SCCA Pro Solo in Lincoln NE. Site of the SCCA Nationals and Pro Solo Finale. I just love the power I finally possess! The short times were not that great since I don't really drag race much (2.0 -1.9 60') but the 200 foot mark was 4.4 sec! about 1 second faster than almost all of the others.

GOOD for you, Mark!!! I don't 'drag' either, so I'd have no clue what to do. What a gorgeous ACR.
Looks like it's kinda leaning towards the LEFT there a bit...;) KUDOS! ~juli

Is that the camera on the outside of the windshield in the middle? What kind is it?

Great run

Brad

The camera is a Go Pro and they are a great little camera for $200! Comes with lots of sticker mounts and arms along with a big suction cup mount for just about anything. The case is inside a weather proof shell and with a 2G card you can record 1 hour of video before downloading!

That was really your first Pro Mark? You've been missing out!

Did you run the Quaife or OS Giken diff?

As a member of the SMAC I am obliged to encourage you to keep the rear gear in the car to help SSM make numbers at Nationals. :)

I was running the 3.73 Quaife and do plan on staying in SSM because I like the gear to much to compromise my car for a class any longer. This was my 1st Pro Solo in about 3 years and the 1st with the Viper is what I meant. They are very fun and intense :2tu:

Heh, the way Nationals courses are going, you could just hang in first gear with the 3.07's.

Are those 285's or 305's up front? The 315-18 Kumho works great on the front of my car, but I'm at stock ride height, might rub with your setup. And in back, the 345-18 or 335-19? I wish they made a 345-19, would make the 710's a more viable choice for us Stock classers vs. the Hoosier.

Looking forward to seeing that thing run in September! :headbang:

The current fronts are 285/30/18 !!! way to short in my book but with the spring and shock set up I'm working on they did really well. I was going to make a change but now that I had a chance to try it I know that the setup will be perfect with the 305 or the 315 on my new 11.5X18 fronts from Forgeline. I will also be using the 19" rears as the 335 on the 13" rim actually works VERY well. The new squared shoulder design is perfect and even though they don't fill the wells as good as the 345 would I was still getting great traction and doubt I would really see much if anything from going to the Hoosier 345.

I was able with a little heat to launch at 2200 rpm and get just a small amount of hop then I was gone! I could even mat it in second off a couple high G sections and still control the rear ends attitude. Can't wait till the end of the month for the next 2 day event in Lincoln. Should have it all in place to try more high speed fun. :2tu:

Having gone the other direction, from the 345-19 Hoosier to the 335-19 Kumho, I can tell you, you are giving up a fair amount of rear grip. The 335 Kumho puts about a half inch less rubber on the ground per tire than the 345 Hoosier. Given the K-tire affiliation, I would recommend building around the 345-18 rear. Though I understand this car isn't an all-out dedicated autocross machine, so it probably doesn't matter, and the 19's do look better.

When you were on the KUMHO was it the new square shouldered tire? This thing has a huge cross section and the entire tread is on the ground edge to edge so I would be skeptical about any "real" advantages with the Hoosier as it's flex and roll over will change the actual contact patch more than the KUMHO does. :2tu:

Since the car and I were new I thought that the 500# weight disadvantage would have had me much more than 1/2 second off the National caliber SSM drivers in attendance. Sure Eric broke and he told me what he thought was left on the table, but I will get better and so will the car so watch out, :rolaugh: I know the laws of physics, but look how fast the 320hp Cobra used to be lol.

Good luck this year and I look foreword to meeting up with you also.

Well I am VERY jealous that you have a track that's for sure :( They are suppose to be building one here soon but we will see :dunno:

The weather is not always perfect, sometimes it will rain for days at a time. It has been good the last week though. Being able to drive with the top down for most of the year is very nice :headbang:

Mark is being super modest ,as he is saying his 60 times were just 1.9 to 2.0. This is not a drag strip, it was not prepped, and we are talking circa World War II aged concrete. The first 60 had a slight bend in it and frankly, people watching the Viper launch were astounded. Mark had folks flocking over to look at the car more than any other machine at the 160+ entrant event. It was a hoot to watch everyone wander over and check out the black beast. Mark came in third in his class, and would have likely been in second if he hadn't hit a few cones.

The assessment of the car was pretty simple --- slightly larger tires in the front, needed, and damn does this thing turn in quick!!!

I was really proud of Mark's first drive, as he is one of the top autocross drivers in the Country ( I can attest to it even if he won't ) and once he gets the Snake dialed in he is going to terrorize the Solo Community.

Prior to this year, Kumho didn't have a 19" offering for the V710. The one 19" size they do have is in the new square-shouldered design. While potentially better, the new design tires tend to be a bit narrower than one would expect for the given size - I think you'll find if you try the 305-18 V710 up front (only available in square shoulder) that it is little, if any, wider (even on the ground) than the rounded 285 you have now - which is why I'd recommend the 315.

My car went from being pretty neutral on a 315/345 Hoosier setup to pretty loose on the 315/335 Kumhos. Could be the 315 Kumho is just *that* much better than the 315 Hoosier, but I think it is more likely I was giving up some grip in the rear. With the addition of $hock$ and alignment tweaks, the car was made to be very fast (see Wendover results), but I still think it is giving up some potential by running a narrower than stock rear tire size.

I think KUMHO makes a great tire, but the 335-19 is really a stock Z06/Viper compromise size. I think you'd be better served in ASP or SSM by the 345-18 KUMHO. Part of me wishes I had bought a Gen2 GTS, so I could run that rear tire in Stock class.

Since the car and I were new I thought that the 500# weight disadvantage would have had me much more than 1/2 second off the National caliber SSM drivers in attendance.
Good thing you're only trying to catch them - I'm trying to catch Braun in SS with a crummy old stock Gen 3! ;)
