If I drive carefull, and slow, can I transport my car in an open trailer, if I rent one today, with my Dakota which has a hitch, and is an eight cylinder, but does NOT have a tow package?

Andrew...you will need (at least) a weight distributing hitch due to tongue weight that will be exerted on your Dakota. You will need to have a frame mounted hitch as well. With the weight bars, your rear bumper will be dragging on the ground.
