this ones been beat to death but hey, i cant go to the track due to rain so its a tequila night, with crazy bikini chicks, mad*ss midgets and fireworks and plus im too lazy to look it up. anyway; im using meguiars for a change of pace. step one cleaner (actually step two as step one was claybar) next polish, next wax. so since there is no accelerator, how long to wait in between polish coats? oh, and how long to leave on each polish coat? i figured i may as well see for myself the difference between zaino and megs

I've tried many a polish under the sun. Meguiar's is the best I've seen for darker cars. I've commented before that Zaino appeared very close to Meguiar's, but it took more elbow grease to get similar results.

I start with the Cleaner application (as you mentioned), then go straight to the Gold Class Polish/Wax. There is High Gloss Glaze that you can purchase in some stores as a 3rd step, but I think the Gold Class does just fine as a 2nd and final coat.

Also, if you have fine scratches or rough spots anywhere, you can use the clay bar in preparation of the surface or opt for the new Scratch-X by Meguiar's. I'm not a fan of clay bars because they leave a residue that can smudge when a car cover is brushed over the spot where clay was applied.

Time between coats? I reckon 15 to 20 minutes.

I haven't tried Zaino products. . .yet.
The Meguiar's Gold Class is downright sickening
how beautiful it looks on black!!!

Scott's application times sound similar to my experience.

I really like Zaino because Sal is very careful about what ingredients he puts in his products. You can find a number of things that will make the paint glaze better than Zaino but it will be at the expense of your paint. Zaino really keeps the paint in mint condition year after year. I wouldn't play games with anything else.

Check out this web site... thats all they talk about is washing
and waxing cars.....

I use the zaino and I top it off with Pinnacle souveran, The
zaino makes the paint shine and the Souveran makes the paint look
wet. You can see the Souveran melt when you put it on.

This method works great on red or dark cars...

here's the site... http://autopia.ws/forums/index.php

One thing I did learn from this site is about the microfibre towels
they work fantastic....

Scott, we gotta talk about the Meguiars...I did the 3 step process on my E320...Initial results were nice, but after a single car wash and couple weeks, the hood and trunk (only panels I did, with buffer) don't feel much better (the old back of the finger test) than panels I did not do....

I compared this to Eric's Viper in Danville last night, his finish is smooth as a baby's butt!! We both know how smooooth that is eh!!

I have been using Meguire's for the past year. But I am starting to see problems showing up. The liquid Gold class leaves white residue in the cracks. So I switched to the Paste wax for clear coat cars. I have seen it haze in the hot sun. The leather care product does not work / I noticed the sheen on the leather steering wheel has gone south. I do not like the Endurence Gloss tire jell. Builds up and looks like s**t over time. I think its time to give Zaino a try.

All,
OK, I guess it is time to post this.

Let me muddy the waters a little more if I might.

Was at a car show last weekend and saw a 1958 BLACK Chevy Impala Convertible that when you looked into it, it was like looking into a mirror. I asked the guy what he used, and he said he only uses Buffalo Milke. I said, excuse me.
He said Buffalo Milke. OK, so what is it? It is a liquid wax ......... etc.
http://www.buffalomilke.com/newinterface/specials.htm

I called and talked to the owner, and he said that I would not be disappointed if I used it (he said it really works well on dark cars). I have used Zaino (Z1,Z5,Z2), Griot's (Best of Show Wax), McGuires (Gold Class Wax), you name it, so trying something else was no big deal. I have not been totally satisfied with the brilliance, or wet look, from the above mentioned products. When looking at the sun (spots) directly in the paint, it would appear fuzzy or like it was out of focus.
Well, I started from scratch, again; cleaned everything off, and put on two coats of Buffalo Milke (recommended by the owner for light colored car, first time); I can only say that it is amazing, the sun glistens and appears to be in focus. Is it the best out there, probably not, but it is the best I have found so far. It is a liquid, so it goes on fast, and takes very little (highly concentrated). It works on light colored cars very well.

Later,

ruckdr,

I just placed an order with Buffalo Milke (took the internet special). Can't wait to use it and see how turns out, been using Meguires Gold and Zymol.

I hear Zaino is reportedly the best so it's next after Buffalo Milke (saving the best for last?), we'll see.

well, my conclusion to this overdiscussed and beat to death topic; I prefer Meguiars over Zaino. Ive a silver and finished the last coat of polish this morning (did two per day since thursday) and i think its deeper and wetter than zaino. so there you have it, i answered my own thread. ooops actually my inital question was about time lapse in between coats yet somehow everyone digressed to the z vs m topic ahh well, lets move this to the trash bin. only one guy answered the actual question posed, funny huh?

If you really think this topic is over-discussed on this board, you haven't yet checked out the autopia detailing link that Dixter posted. It's unbelievable.
