hey, you guys and gals who have this shifter, do you find the stock "tee ball" shifter to be quicker and lighter than the MGW knob? At e-town, i noticed that this shifter had to muscled around, and that when i put the old shift knob in, it was much much quicker and smoother, any comments?

I know what you mean about the increased effort. I mean it makes sense, shorter lever = more force needed. But to me the shorter throw, and therefore quicker shift, is worth it.

Is there a way you could make the shifter shorter but still keep the stock shifter knob?

I've driven my only Viper with this shifter, and I absolutly loved it. For me personally, I wouldn't change it. I like the shorter throw, even if it takes more muscle (what little I have). It fit right into my hand, unlike the '00 stock shifter, and I'm 6'2" (in relation to hand size). I feel like I can pick out which gear is which easier than the stock. I liked the feel of it too. Like the name, you can grip it and your hand doesn't slide on it like if it were leather.

Yes, Rich Detert sells a shorter shifter ($25!) for use with the stock knob - I installed it and the throws are a lot shorter, but require a bit more effort. I think there's a B&M ripper shifter that also is a shorter shifter?

Thanks Slaughter! I have always wanted to know that. I do like the MGW shifter though. Just like Jimandela stated, I wish that they came in yellow. ;) Although I dont have a Viper at this moment in time, yellow is the color Im set on (GTS, probably NO stripes).

in stock now in yellow, grey ( for all the limited production colors like green, steel grey, graphite etc.) 96 blue, red, and sapphire(although sapphire comes out very dark in this application so it almost looks like pearl black)

I got the First Strike knob for my GTS, and I think I like it better than the gripper on my R/T.

It is all part of yellow ownership... :)

Can't wait to get mine!
but what to do with the non yellow gripper?
Anyone?

My yellow brother ... I just sold my stock gear shifter on e-Bay for a modest $37. I guess that is better than nothing.
