I was out playing in the thunderstorms today and the car started to act up on me. When I was cruising about (65-70mph) I kept getting a feeling through the drivtrain like the car was hitting a bump - only it wasn't hitting anything. There wasn't any signs during idle or acceleration, just when the car was holding highway speed.

I think I know what this may be, but I wanted to run it by you guys first.

It wasn't traction, I know all too well what that feels like in the rain, this was definately something in the motor.

Agree, puddles. The feeling is almost like driving in sand for a moment.

I have raced this car in cloudbursts, autox'ed her at a ZR when it was too wet for everyone else, even driven through a tropical storm - its not a traction issue. I average about 8hrs a day on the road and made the equivalant of 14 trips around the planet - I know the difference between hydroplaning and an engine malfunction. What I don't know is how the engine works properly.

What would cause an engine to misfire or hesitate at consistant highway speeds, but not during acceleration or idle? I was recently told there is an issue with the intake drinking water at speed, but I never expereienced this before.

I won't argue the point cause I wasn't there. But I will say that the wide front tires cause a huge slowing force when they hit a puddle. Nothing like hydroplaning. It normally also causes the car to **** to one side (assuming th epuddle is not full car width). Other than that I have no clue.

Curious why would one play with a viper in a thunderstorm?????

Again why would the same person drive thru large puddles of water then question the car?I would think this would create a bump feel.

also side note I would not use the word fire arund your car

Where did I say I drove through puddles, large or otherwise?

And I never said anything about slowing - I said it felt like hitting a bump, like I was occationally running over a broomstick or one of those expansion joints in a bridge.

Bryan,

I had the same type of situaton happen just days before a upstream 02 sensor went bad.

At first it was just a sound, and then I could feel it almost **** or hesitate.

The Tech also replaced my stock plug wires, stated high humidity effects well used and heat stressed plug wires..????could cause the car to misfire or hesitate...

hope this helps

Rick

What I don't know is how the engine works properly.

Check the electrical connections where the connectors attach to the PCM. I had a similar problem when driving in the rain.

Some moisture had made it's way into one of the connectors and after I dried it out it was fine.

14 trips around that planet... that's a lot... in all that driving and working on cars, I would have thought that you would know how an engine works.
