There have been several threads on here lately about aftermarket mods, computer tuning, factory HP ratings, Etc...

Can you tune a mustang to higher HP numbers? Yep!, can modified corvettes beat stock Vipers, Yep! So what?

We built an Omni GLH at my garage. (NOT MY OMNI) This is a little turbo four cylinder, when the tuning is finished this will be deep in the 10's. Yes a ten second Omni. So what?

Bring that Omni, any Mustang or a corvette to a local car show or cruise night, and park it next to a Viper. Watch what happens.

A Viper is still a Viper. People still say "Look! that's my dream car" Mustangs are everywhere, same with Camaro's, Corvettes, etc.

Don't lose sight of how awesome our cars really are. There will always be someone faster, not many are more awesome.

I agree, but there will always be the power-hungry peeps who will rock anything if its faster or has a higher horsepower rating than the next car.

Some people are happy & content with a particular car or even a few diff cars. Others are always searching for the next "best" thing.

I wouldnt trade my GTS for a 10sec Anything. The looks, character/personality, & Balls(bottom end power) of the Viper are all things that no other car can provide for me.

I don't give a crap about anybody's modded whatever....... my car only has a lame 500ish horspower, but it has it all day long for years to come. Hammer on it like a madman and it don't blow up. Those modded poser junks might get their 900+ hp, but for how long.

I could race your Omni next year. Will be shooting for 1000(reliable)hp or so on my gen 4.

There is nothing, nothing better than beating most cars with a modern hot looking, exotic car like the viper. It just shows complete dominance on the track or the street and make the others put their tails between their lags and stop modding their shoe boxes.

There is nothing worse than losing to a fart can type of car.. just *****.... even know that they blow up after two or three passes at the track..

Just my opinion and not trying to be disrespectful in anyway..

That sounds like what some ferrari guys say about vipers. Who cares how many people look at your car over another car at a car show? If you look for the approval of others to justify your actions, you will never really be happy.

Sorry Steve.....we have to agree to disagree on this.

While the Viper is a great car, I think that many people on the site appreciate the works of others who try to modify their cars.

Having some guy who is 30 years old have a parent buy a Viper for them really does not impress me.
Having some guy who took a Pinto and made is something special, with some intelligence, can be more impressive.

We just view things differently, I guess.

We are saying the same thing just differently. The Ferrari guys like their cars for what they are, I love my Vipers for what they are.

We view things exactly the same.

I did a local TV show for several years here locally and featured modified cars in every show. I love modified cars. I enjoyed helping build the Omni here (for four years) The problem is that Viper owners often can't see the forest for the trees. They talk of modified cars and lament how their Viper computer can't be "unlocked" or how many aftermarket parts there are for the other various makes. That, was the original point of my post.

I love my viper so much. I went to a track day and realized how great my viper is around the track. I am still thrilled and got more connected to my viper. At that same track day I did some roll on street type racing with other cars and all of then were modified and their computers can be tunned. I was not the fastest and I was not the slowest guy that day. After the track day I decided to keep my gen 4 viper and realized that I love it so much. I decided to keep my viper and not trade it for a GTR which is a fasssst car who has many many tuning options that can get me any where from 500-1200 awhp depends on my goal and application.

Ian not saying a GTR is superior to my gen4 viper. All iam trying say my viper has everything but not the tunning option which is an important element these days.

My gen4 viper is going to be be in the 600-630rwhp thanks to BBG parts from A to Z and the magical hands of tators garage with their installation of the parts and care. I have the mopar PCM, but I wish to have a tuning option that can optimize my power and give me a better car for straight line reace.

Let me also say this. Today, 620 whp with a good area under the curve is the first step I need to have a car that I can call fast. That's why iam ********** with my stock and my mopar PCM. My computer holds me back just because I have no freaking way to tune it. Even if I get a600-630 rwhp when iam done I will be made because I know I have some more hp and better performance if I can do some tuning to my computer.

Hi guys, I'm Mike with the offending car. I would have responded sooner but it takes a week here to get verified. I'm guessing you guys are mopar people so I have no problem posting this up. If you are not familiar with the Omni GLH Turbo you haven't drove one or raced one. I've owned a few of these cars and this one twice. I built this car, with the help of Mopar Steve, to learn basic hot rodding skills, first time welding, first time header/intake, first time stand alone EFI (Electromotive TEC3) the end result will be a car to compete in "best street car" competitions. The car is still not tagged, still trying to get past emissions test, (DE won't list it as an antique if its modified), still have a few bugs to work out of it and learn the software to tune it. Steve said low 10s, more like mid 11's, if it goes in the 10's, you will hear about the party being thrown. Reliability on these cars are traditional mopar muscle, this engine is basically a slant 6 with 2 cylinders lopped off, the axles are the weak link. Here is a picture of the car and I will address some of the threads.

Only 2hp per cubic inch?

ding ding ding, we have a winner here
I wouldn't trade my viper for a 10 second anything either.

Why would you want to go that slow anyway?
^ I like this guy already

Speaking of Omni's. I worked for Dodge back in the days when they were cranking out K cars. I remember the when the little GLHS first came out, Dodge had a great Ad that stated "guess what ate the Z28", yep the Omni GLHS. I pumped one up to about 300hp, what a fun ride.
