MORE best 60\' questions

After reading all the other post pertaining to this topic, if 1.5 60' is basically impossible on stock tires;

what is expected to be about the best one could do in 60' times on exhaust mods only and stock tires? and at what front/rear PSI

then what would be the best 60' one could expect in the same car with BFGs? and at what front/rear PSI

im asking cause this is how i run every week and i want to know how much more to shoot for with my goals without trying to attain the unattainable

Re: MORE best 60\' questions

V10MOJO is a prime example of what I am talking about in the other thread. He runs every week and can't get close to a 1.5 60' time and is wondering whats wrong.

The 60' time is based on many variables. They include but are not limited to;

Track preparation
Tire pressure
Driver input(a better word than ability)
Weather conditions
Type of suspension
Even the amount of gasoline in your tank will have an effect

Once you find how to launch at your local track based upon average conditions you can start experimenting with different techniques to see if something will enhance your 60' times. You must first be comfortable in your ability to repeat again and again your 60' time within a tenth of a second.

I keep every time ticket that I get from the tracks that I frequent. I have a computer log that i enter the data into. I use this data to guestimate my elapsed time, 60' time and mph when I return to these facilities based upon the previous data gathered during similar conditions.

Once you have done something similar to the above, you will be able to set performance goals and work towards reaching them...keeping in mind the limitations of your drivetrain components and the conditions of the track and weather on race day. You will then be able to make changes like tire pressure, type of tire, suspension, etc and be able to make a realistic evaluation of your change and how it affected your performance. To ask about tire pressure and tire type on an open forum will get unlimited different responses and you don't know which one will work for you.

Those of us who race at Bradenton regularly know that about every 3 months they host a big event and the track gets prepped extremely well. The few days after these events traction is excellent. The next one of these days will be August 17th so I hope folks will come out for a fun day of racing.

Re: MORE best 60\' questions

On stock tires with exhaust mods only I would think 1.9 to 2.0 60' times would be very good. I have no experience with DR's.

Re: MORE best 60\' questions

LOL, tom, im not "wondering whats wrong", im asking the genral group of "experts" here whats to be expected. my best so far is 1.65 on BFGs. with regards to psi; despite track variables im sure there is a general "window" of optimum operation, track variables not withstanding. since this is a science, as some are saying, then this should apply.

Re: MORE best 60\' questions

BTW I ran 45psi front 20-22psi rear to get my 1.7 time with spray. Hope that helps a little.

Re: MORE best 60\' questions

There was a reported 1.55 sixty at the V10 Nationals on Pilots. It was on the time slip. That was at Bowling Green. The very best I've seen on real street tires is in the 1.70s. Now I'm somewhat sceptical of the BG clocks since that is where I recorded my best sixty with slicks, 1.375. Not to say it's impossible but my previous best was 1.42. Now that run felt good, as I drove through the tires just right, but that's a 4 link time. Viper front ends are very low. It's possible the bodywork could trip the lights rather than the tires. Just guessing.

Re: MORE best 60\' questions

I have not run with Drag Radials yet. I have only been to the track with my pilot sports, my best 60' was a 1.72 and I run consistently between 1.76 and 1.81. I keep the pressure in both sets of tires at 28psi (I tried the lower in the rear, higher in the front and my times were in the 1.9's) I also usually go with a 1/2 tank of gas. I also agree that track prep has a lot to do with it as well as the other variables mentioned. I would say that if you shoot for low to mid 1.7's those would be great 60's on pilot sports. I have the basic bolt on's and exhaust mods, oh yea and an old not so fast Gen 1 that I ran an 11.88 in (no not 1/8 mile) ;) .

Re: MORE best 60\' questions

Somebody hear knows some tweaks to the rear of a gen 1 suspension to really bring down the times. Can't remember who?
