We before and after dynoed the 1996 Viper GTS of Lee Saunders and here are the results:

With Stock heads the car made 451 RWHP at 499 RWTQ and has BTR Belanger headers and exhaust on an otherwise stock platform.

With BTR Stage 2 Cylinder heads installed and 110 miles on the mod(drive to home and the dyno for Lee) the car pulled 503 RWHP at 533 RWTQ at the same dyno facility 3 days later.

This car still retains the stock cam and of course its stock bottom end.

We then proceeded to dyno it with our BTR NGP nitrous system and it produced 640 RWHP at 900+ RWTQ.

Dyno sheets are available via email. I can send them to someone to upload here if you'd like.

Thanks again for reading.

Tom -- nice stuff! Another documented 50 RWHP gain with a head swap. I assume as part of the swap you changed lifters, pushrods and rockers?

Sheyster -- the gains seem to be comparable on the '00+ cars. Mine made 515 RWHP (with high-flow cats), up from 438 RWHP with headers + exhaust + same high-flows...

Ben,

Thanks for the plug. We have not seen any gains less than 45 RWHP and have now installed these heads on all model year Gen 2 Vipers. All of our stage 2 and 3 cylinder head packages come with 1.7 ratio roller rocker arms unless not wanted by the customer.

Shey,

Our stage 3 head is based upon the Mopar Street Performance Casting as a platform. My own Viper gained an additional 17 rwhp with these heads alone over stage 2. I am still using the stock cam and am sure that a more aggressive cam grind will bring out the best that these heads have to offer. The stage 3 head made considerably more power in the low and mid rpms as it flowed over 25 cfm more than our stage 2 at lower lifts. Lower valve lift is what we have to deal with on stock cars with low lift cams. These heads maximize the output of the stock cam.

We are installing a set of stage 3 heads with a new cam design this weekend on a 01' Viper and will post dyno results next week.
We also have several 00-01 vipers that are installing stage 2 heads as you read this. Hopefully those owners will dyno their cars as well.

We will continue to offer our head packages at very aggressive pricing to the Viper community. Consider the fact that for almost the price of a decent exhaust system, ANY year Gen 2 Viper can gain 50+ BHP.

Thanks again,

Tom

Tom,

Any reason you like to keep the stock cam? Seems that while you have everything apart it is a good time to swap out the cam for not too much additional $$.

Anthony,

The cam in 1997 Vipers was the most aggressive of the stock grinds. My car is a 97. There is more work to changing the cam even during a head swap. I like my stock cam, and many customers do not want to opt for experimenting with cam grinds and the associated computer issues.

We are testing a cam that should gain about 20-25 hp with no ill effects on the cars computer. I will post results.

SoCal,

I will never forget you my friend! Still enjoying your care package!
Expect a conservative 500 rwhp with stage 3 heads and a conservative 480-490 with stage 2 heads and your current combination of mods. We have several 00' cars in the 475 to 500 range with stage 2 heads and various exhaust combinations. Most of these cars were dynoed with little or no "learn" miles on their computers and most are running with cats installed.

Heck, my numbers are very conservative as I guarantee power output. Some California dynos are nice and loose and will give even larger gains.

quote:
Treynor, 77 RWHP from just heads?! Cam too? What else did you change and who did you buy the heads from?

438 RWHP with smooth tubes, K&Ns, MOPAR ECU, Belanger headers, high-flow 3" cats, Belanger exhaust

515 RWHP with same intake, stock ECU, CDI headers, same cats, same exhaust, Hennessey heads, upgraded lifters, T&D 1.7 roller rockers & pushrods.

Cam remained stock. Other tests have shown only small differences between CDI and Belanger headers at this power level.
