"Press reports and analysts have speculated that Asian automakers looking to move into the global marketplace could be interested in buying the Viper, and that the sale could fetch Chrysler as much as $100 million"

Great VIPER made in CHINA NO THANKS!

I'm sure there were at least 100 people with at least $1M in spare change at VOI X, all it would take is 100 guys with 1M and each get an equal 1% stake in Viper to keep it in the US and keep those jobs here too.

I personally think Viper could be had for around 60M.

I spoke to a couple of guys at Saleen they said money was too tight and they recently closed down their Irvine CA plant so no more S7's looks like they're out of the picture.

The same thing at prefix they're too small and privately owned to come up with the cash.

I think someone here should start a corperation heck we have enough guys here to have viper for US.

Think about how good it would be for the breed if Viper was owned by actual viper owners.

The development of future generations would be unlimited.

Someone mentioned that would drive the viper to about 200 grand so what?

You get what you pay for!

  1. Forgot to mention that the Viper is PROFITABLE!
  2. "Fewer than 1,000 unites were sold in 2007" = :rolleyes:
  3. "In terms of performance the Viper is closer to a Ferrari or a Lamborghini, he said, leaving it in a very limited market." HUH? Why would cheaper than Ferrari and Lambo but faster be limiting?
  4. "An upgrade of the V-10 engine could costs "hundreds of millions of dollars in development costs," Bragman said. "So they can’t really put any more money into the development of the vehicle for such a small return on investment."" They JUST COMPLETED THE UPGRADE! Why would they need to do more for some time???
It's fine to make an advertise a point of view, but why not research your arguments? Lazy desk side internet researched reporting.

At VOI X VP of Marketing announced that Chrysler had received an offer to purchase the Viper, plant, logo, etc. and mentioned, "partnership".

Rumour at the first banquet was that the offer was from a company in India. On Sunday the rumour was that Ferarri had made Chrysler an offer for the Viper that was much more lucrative. This was after the record setting run at Nuremburg was shown at the banquet.

It even makes sense that Ferrari may actually want to build the "fastest road course car built in the world." Who knows, if Ferrari bought the Viper maybe they have enough pull that they could get the restrictor plate rule made into something more reasonable than 30-40% restriction?

Chrysler did mentiont that they manitained an interest in the continuance of the Viper.

Japan's interested? Sounds like bs to me. Similar to the GTR and the R8 being faster than the Viper

Viper = Dodge
Dodge = Viper

There is NO serious buyer.
For now.
Rumors only.

Sit back and drink a cup of tea...time will tell, what CERBERUS will do to the different brand names!

At one of the tech talks at VOI with the engineers who developed the latest engine, the issue of budget kept coming up. I asked how much did the current engine cost to develop. Engineer said the budget was $5mm and they actually spent $6.5mm. This is before EPA testing, etc.

If they spent "hundreds of millions of dollars" as the article suggested, the Viper would now have what, 3,000 hp?!?!?! :)

Hey, you talk like there's something wrong with 3000 HP. :D

The only thing that is hundreds of millions is the number of times these lame@ss reporters repeat stupidity.

Can you imagine the joy of interfacing with all the government agencies to build a car?

I think it is ironic that We paid for the roads and the government acts like they own the roads.

But then, they decided a long time ago, we shouldn't own our cars anyway.... (research meaning of MSO)

What might be interesting would be to turn the Viper into a Kit Car where you buy all the components. In fact, there could be 2 part assemblies: 1) Rolling Chassis, and 2) Viper Engine. This would allow real men to buy the chassis and put a Falconer in it (!)

Frankly, there is less and less eco system for the Viper due to infringing Class Warfare and Police State. Like the Spotted Owl, its habitat is drying up and soon will go the way of the behemoth.

Some meaningful comments now:

1) Some Russian Rich Guy bought TVR. I would think that Viper would be even more attractive to Russian Mafia types!

2) The Studebaker Avanti is still being made. It evolved from private party ownership which continued the actual Studebaker car w/Chevy engine (some mods to car but that is irrelevant.) It changed ownership many times, but still survived. Currently it is bilt on an LS1 Camaro chasis/drive train with all new body design. Its completely different but still looks like Avanti.
