We had the annual Viper shoot out at Moroso today. There were about 10 Vipers, and quite a few running nitrous. I can't remember everyone times but here's some highlights & pics.

The solid cam Viper was there he did not use spray but ran all motor. He was having clutch problems so couldn't launch hard. I don't remember his times.

There was a Gen I with motor work and direct port injection. The engine looked very nice, custom paint etc. pic is below. He was getting harassed by the track officials for no windows (i.e. plastic removable) no rollbar etc. but was allowed to run but not below 12's although I think he went into the 11's

There were several problems while there. One was a silver Viper that was running stock radials up front and bias ply slicks in the rear. I'm not sure what all was done to the car but he was spraying in 3rd gear when he started to fishtail, veered across the centerline and into the other lane. Luckily the other Viper he was racing was stock and was some distance behind and so they avoided a collision. A different GTS had a nitrous problem I'm not sure what exactly happened but there was a big pop like a backfire and now it makes a knocking sound. Hopefully it's not a major problem but he drove it home anyway.

As for the winner well your reading his post

It wasn't completely fair was I was the only Viper legal to run sub 12's but had the officials let the safety rules slide there might have been some closer runs, but those were the NHRA rules.

Anyway I made 4 runs starting at noon and ending at 4:00 PM it was very hot and humid which seemed to lower the MPH as the day went on. The 60' were not as good as I was getting before so had I been able to hook harder I could have pulled some better ET's. I was on ET streets & skinnies and have been getting 1.5X 60'

10.98@129 1.63 60'
10.95@128 1.64 60'
11.15@128 1.76 60'
11.02@127 1.65 60'

Mes, it was nice to meet you. To add some x-tra info, the RT 10 on the picture above run 11.4 at 119 mph. This was on motor. Motor was stock cubic inch with heads/intake/TB/ exhaust etc.
The soild cam viper run 11.89 at 126.7 mph with a 2.3X 60'
He is using a racing cluthc, and although the clutch hooks hard, it rattles for a second or so upon gear engagement, and the car had to be shifted a bit slow (no powershifts or speed shifts).. I rode in the car outside the track , and the car does pull to 7000 plus rpms.. the clutch issue is a shame, but the owner is working on it.... It makes the whole car vibrate hard for like a second or so everytime you shift gears and get on the gas.. it pulls nice once in gear though.
The silver Viper that lost it a couple of times due to tires combination was ahead/cam 200 shot of NOS.. could not get a clean pass. although I hear is a high 10 sec. car at 132-134 mph
BTW, the Soild Viper owner told me hea had dynoed at 675 rwhp at 6300 rpms, and that car pulls to 7400 rpms, and starts running lean after that.. he will be changing injectors so he can take it to 8000 rpms

Mike -

Congrats on your victory! Your times indicate excellent consistency in which I find to be imperative on race day. It's good to be consistent rather then overpower the entire drivetrain, suspension and suffer erratic track times with too much horsepower.

You ran the most consistent and YOU WON!

Regards,
Doug
