Was going though some of my old Motor Trends and found this:

Riiiiight..... the article says "Handling" but they measure ride quality???!!! Then I say give the award to any Lexus and call it a day. Might as well drag out the ol' trusty luggage space and cupholders variable.

Sad for the GTR though... the R8 is the new golden boy for the auto mags.

NOTE: ***SUBJECTIVE RANKING***

Can someone compile the objective stats? Oh wait... the ACR KILLS everyone there.

The ariticle is about finding the best handling car. The ACR crushes the competition and ends up 7th?? ***?

I wouldn't wipe my **** with that article.

Yea I didn't figure this would go over well. Just thought if anyone didn't see it, here's there chance. I'd still take a ACR.

No offense to you at all. It's a nice gesture to offer it up to someone in the club. Just venting at the obvious bias in the story.

Oh I didn't take it personal. I thought it was stupid too, why have a "test" and then just pick whatever car you want. That's why I never go by what "Reviewers" tell me. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't kick the Audi out of my garage, but someone is going to buy that car because "they" think it out preforms everything, because Motor Trend picked it first.

I have more ads & stories to post just need the time to upload them.

This test was about the best HANDLING car not the fastest, and the R8 won in their tests. The R8 is an awesome car all around and Audi is not bankrupt either. Its just not the fastest car with its current HP.

I love my Viper. I have driven the R8 a couple of times and it is an amazing handling car. Certainly not as fast as the Viper but I would have to give the handling to the R8. My choice overall would be the Viper of course but in the handling dept I don't think this test was biased. JMHO.

Did you read the article? The ACR kicked the R8 to the curb in handling OBJECTIVELY. That's why they had to label the winning as SUBJECTIVE.. ride quality is BS considering the article was named Apex Predators, and not Apex Softies.

The R8 isn't as much a predator as it is a vegetarian... thin and nimble but not a whole lotta growl.

These mags always go for newest as BEST. They don't consider the Viper "new" as the skin is old. Check every MT or C&D Car of the Year, and it's whatever came out that year.

M/T has always been very pro-Viper - or at least they used to be back during the Gen I/II days. And, when you read the article and watch the videos, they're still more Viper friendly than C/D or R/T. I think a lot of the problem is that the editors senior enough to drive an ACR are getting old enough that a day in an R8 is just enough fun, without leaving you sore, that it's a shoe-in for winning a comparo like this. I think the R8 is a kick-butt car that could easily be a daily driver. I'd buy one (used).

Of course the R8 is a great car... no arguments there. But the title of the article is extremely misleading. The article is laid out with scientifically objective info... then they throw in a variable that don't belong and then subjectively claim the R8 the winner.

Why not just spare our time and call the article "Cars Our Editors Subjectively Like" and go from there. I'd still read it and respect their OPINIONS. But to play it like you're objectively fair, then tossing out all the relevant numbers to declare the #1 car as #7 is a joke. Nothing new though... how many Audi, VW, Porsche, Lambo ads are there in that issue?

Also... notice every category that the Viper wins in (majority of them), they HAVE to qualify it by saying something bad. But every praise on the GTR or R8 is unquestioned.
