As I was out riding around today, I decided to go look at CD players at Circuit City. I found one I liked so I bought it and had them install it. As soon as I got back in the car, I noticed several scratches on my dash and some paint that had been chipped off. I pointed it out to the installation guy and at 1st he denied he did it and then changed his story to "go home and armor all it, they're not deep". I came home and the more I looked the madder I got so I called and reported it to the store manager. He told me to bring it back so the Audio manager could see it. I took it back and the mgr. told me to leave it so they could "work on it". I asked what they were gonna do and he said they would try to heat the scratches out and if that didnt work, they'd repaint it. I know from trying to get my glovebox painted that matching the Gen 1 dash black is nearly impossible. So, I'm betting I end up with a melted, mismatching black dash. A new dash is almost $1,000, so I know they're gonna fight tooth and nail about having to replace it, but I don't see them being able to repair mine. He said they'd give me a call, but it could be 8-9 tonight and may even need it over night. I told him I'd come get it and bring it back tomorrow if they don't finish today. I wrote my mileage down so I can be sure they don't go on any joy rides, but I just have a real uneasy feeling about how this is gonna turn out :curse:

let them try and fix it under there terms. If your not satisfied, have them replace it. Or you take it to who you think will do a good job and make them pay for it. If it get's ugly and you end up in court, you can at least say that you gave them a chance to fix it.

Chad sorry to hear about your run of bad luck. When I bought my RT/10 the previous owner bought a new black dash, console trim, glove box door, and the door panel trim. You are correct the receipt was around $1000 for all new oem parts. I would be very suprised if they could match it due to the finish of the paint.

I just picked the car up and well...its better. Not perfect by no means. They were able to work some of the scratches out (actually I think they just covered them up w/armor all) but the paint chips are still missing obviously. I'm gonna wait a couple days and see what it looks like. If it looks as bad as it did before, I'm calling them back and requesting a new dash. I'll hold out hope that ONE day I'll find someone who can match the black paint and get them to respray that little area.

If I have to let anyone work on my car, I stand around and watch them like a hawk.

Its better to watch them while they are working on your car the whole time, so it WON"T get driven.

Writing your mileage down only gives you a reason to argue later, after they have driven it, and say "So what?".

Yes Very hard. The dash itself was $380.00 with the VCA discount through Chuck Tator, but they are officially gone now. I would think a price of $1,000.00 would be correct right now. The best option would be to have it professionally painted.

Hey Chad, you might want to consider having your dash painted Yellow to match your wheels/ emblems???? Too much, or no? Just a thought...

I think your best bet is to remove all the dash pieces and repaint them either the satin black or gloss red. If you don't feel confident, then send them to a body shop to have it done. The factory finish is put on what appears to be very thin. Save yourself the money and just paint it!

1) A beautiful woman comes up to you and wants to have sex
2) 2 beautiful woman comes up to you and wants to have sex
3) A slew of tropicana girls come up to you and wants to have sex.

You'll be to tired to worry about your dash

Sometimes just leaving the car stock is the least frustrating thing to do.

Just be glad you are able to drive your car.

I bought this CD player because it can play music from thumb drives thus eliminating the need for a in-dash CD changer (which is what I had and don't have the space to mount an external changer). And guess what? The freaking thing won't play from my thumbdrive :evilmad: I took it back to Circuit City last night and they tried my thumbdrive on their display unit and it wouldnt work there either. All I get is "Check" on the display. It is suppose to play .mp3 or .wma files. I have tried dozens of each and nothing! The circuit city guy told me to check JVC's website and see if they had a FAQ section about problems like I'm having. They don't. He said with all this new radio technology, "it's been one headache after the other". If I don't get it today, I'm just gonna go back (for a 4th time) and tell them to pull it out, give me a refund and put my old unit back in. So basically, the only thing this weekend will have accomplished is them messing my dash up :curse:

Be there when they do the change over to make sure they have spliced the wires correctly...
Took me two hours to do mine to factory standard(swaped the plugs over so no cutting of wires all plug and play..

Chad,
I've had good luck with (indirectly, as an Electronics Buyer) the Sony MEX1GP. NOT quite the same as plugging in a thumb drive....but the face plate is detachable and you can hook up to it via USB and store 1GB of songs.

Good luck!! Sad for your frustrations!
