I guess you know the sound really is an huge improvement over stock. You really get a better sound when the car is under load, and you will notice that if you are in an area where there is something for the sound to echo off of, it really sounds great. When you have the window partly down you get the full effect. I like to keep the window down anyway, for fresh air. Have you noticed the side sills. They should be much cooler. Those sec. cats had to make a decent difference. I noticed that they had a huge amount of substrate in them.

If anyone out there needs a set of the Bullet Mufflers, let me know, as I said in another post, I keep a good stock of them and will sell them for the same cost the Bullet Co. does.

Duh!

You are right, It's hasn't been that long! Yes, straight cut, straight pipe, no bend, I just had a heck of a time cutting the pipe before the 2nd cat.

Okay! Sorry about the very long delay. Had to edit the pictures for size and get them uploaded (and deal with a lot of other crazy stuff happening right now). Here are your pictures with a brief description:

The stock cats/muffler on the car:

Here is a close up of the 2nd cat by the muffler, as well as the stock bend:

Here is a close up of the hanger/clamp on the rear passenger side by the crossover:

And here is what the stock system (2 cats) looks like out of the car. Pretty easy to see where the bend is between the cats:

You must be registered for see images

Here is the new piece with the new muffler and stock cat up front:

You must be registered for see images

And here it is on the car looking forward. Notice the straight pipe in place of the cat:

And here is a view from the backside where we showed you the hanger/clamp above. You will notice that with the shorter bullet muffler you now have a small straight pipe where it connects to the crossover piece:

And here is one final view of the missing cat:

Hope these are of some help, and sorry for the delay in getting them posted! I will try to upload a couple of the sound videos here in a bit...

Thanks ViperD and Y2K3SRT. Very useful info. By the way, are there any issues with O2 sensors that have to be dealt with?

No issues at all but i must say that i bought the smallest mufflers bullet makes and the sound is very very loud. Maybe the next size longer is a bit more civilizied. I love a loud beasty sound but this is pushing my limit. I 100% got my money's worth. Weight savings, sound and even some hp. Wish i had a shop w/ a dyno close by.

I am with D here. I tried 3 setups so far and like the final result. First I removed the cats and left the original mufflers and crossover. Very UPSish sound that I did not like at all. Second I replaced the stock mufflers with Dynomax bullet mufflers. They are very short (seems like 15 or 16 inches). These were the same ID as stock (2 1/2 inch I believe). When I tested it for sound the volume was just too high. The quality of sound was very good but just too loud. Then I added a second pair of the same Dynomax mufflers. The volume is now at a near perfect level for me and the quality of sound is still very good.

My next change coming this summer will be to remove the crossover system and have direct side exits. I know this may bring back more of the 5 cylinder sound like on the Gen I. The primary reason is to reduce the backpressure. The crossover is providing lots of needless backpressure. I noticed this when I was testing the system prior to fully welding the connections. The amount of air leakage was incredible, indicating significant backpressure. The leakage was nearly the same before and after the mufflers so I am fairly certain it is coming from the crossover. A secondary benefit is weight reduction. Anyone who has worked with the exhaust knows the crossover is very heavy.

If you take the cats out you will be down 40RWHP. You must install sims or the car will run rich. I had no warning lights or anything but the dyno showed that I run very rich. After the install od sims and VEC1 I gained back my HP plus 7RWHP and 12RWHP

The bullets sound great, how about any ideas for a 96 GTS rear exhaust. Remove one cat, replace bullets?? Newbie here. Thanks

ElDioblo the SRT has a four cat sytem, no problem with the sec. cat off, only +++++ .

Seen a guy last night with an 04. He had the Corsa system on the car but left the sec. cat on, and I now know that this must be the trick, unless the Corsa system is just to soft in sound. This guy went nuts when he heard my car. I took him for a ride and he can't wait to get the sec. cats off. There is no comparison in the two cars. As far as dyno results, well the Bullet Muffler is not going to add or subtract from the numbers in my opinion, but if the truth is known, I don't think the cat back system inproves HP. I've heard it said that if you leave the system at 2.5 inch, from the cats forward, you won't see any improvement to speak of, especially for the huge cost of the cat back system. The twisty crossover on the SRT may be a different story. It does stand to reason that this may help the car to go to three inch. One thing is for sure, remove the very restrictive sec. cat and you will notice a difference in sound and performance.

I did a back to back dyno test with stock exhaust and then with all 4 cats removed (using a sim for the downstream O2 sensors. Netted less than 10 hp. Since then I replaced the stock mufflers with Dynomax bullet mufflers. No follow-up dyno test but I could not tell a difference performance wise (seat of the pants). Sounds much better though. I think the crossover is the big loss, and without improving the crossover other changes are not very effective.

A local member had the sec cat off, straight 2.5" out the side system, and he put an additional ~25 hp/tq over mine that was bone stock, almost same amount of mileage.

I have reiterate Skips point, there is no way I lost 40 hp, it's far more responsive than before, and sounds awesome withe the bullets.
