Well, it aint the big boys, but the Nascar Touring Series came to Portland. And they needed pace car support, so we had the privilige of providing DODGE with the honor! Jon and Doris do a race-rotation, and she drew the honor of the big event. Tues and Wed 8 / 11-12 on Speed TV, "NASCAR TOURING SERIES-PORTLAND."
I am especially pleased that Dodge normally pays good money for OPC coverage, especially on televised races. But this race was FREE for Dodge! Our chance to give back.... THANKS FOR BUILDING THESE GREAT CARS! Thanks to NASCAR for letting me leave the PARTSRACK banner in the windshield! They can advertise whatever they want.....
25,000 spectators came to watch this 'feeder series' event, and a NASCAR record was set: One of the original NASCAR Hudson Hornet drivers from the 1st Daytona Race, Hershel McGriff, came out of retirement to drive again. He became the eldest driver ever to start a NASCAR event. He finished in TOP TEN of 26 cars. ps he is 81, and he put the harnesses in my 1st Viper back in 1993! We had 6-7 full-course yellows in the 125 mile race, but I suspect the footage will show mostly commercials then.
The track announcer called "here comes that Beeeeyuuuuteeeful Dodge Viper Pace Car" the first few times......after the 7th caution it was more like "Nice, but can we just get back to racin?"
Sorry if this sounds like a brag, but heck......pacing since 1993 and 1st time on National TV! THANKS TEAM VIPER for many years of support.
