So my renewal policy came in, and I noticed it said I had X coverage PLUS $1500 in customizations.

So I called Nationwide and they said thats for any modifications I made to the car, like "rimz" or stereo upgrades, etc.

My question is, should I include my Super Charger that was installed with the car from woodhouse when I got it?

Heaven forbid I wreck/total this thing, wouldnt I want them to know about the expense of the Super Charger too?

Or am I at risk of having insurance dropped, because thats a power modification?

Anyone have any insight into this? Just asking them to increase that coverage to X dollar amount will do no good, they have you go to an authorized location and they take photos of your modifications and fill out a form for the national office so they can increase your coverage and (accordingly increase your premium cost).

Please help,

Jon

Call a different company and ask how they treat that. Or call your agent and ask "what if I was to?" Problem is, if you were in an accident and they were not to approve of that mod, and they found it, they might not honor the policy. Probably not, but you would certainly want to know the answer before hand.

Careful if calling your agent and asking "what if". Don't know if its fact, but I've heard that even asking "what if" can affect your rates...

If I was you, I'd simply work on an "agreed value" waiver (search "agreed value" as there was an insurance guy who posted a string on this about a month ago), and then they may have you list modifications....in which case I'd call the Roe Supercharger and "Air Interface and Pressure Control manifold adapter".

Aaron

So I should call my agent, and see about just getting an "agreed value" policy ? instead of this inclusion of a customizations clause?

I'll try to give them a call tomorrow.

Nationwide does not offer an "Agreed Value" policy. Nor do barely any large carriers. These policies are typically written for antique/street rod cars. I have heard of some carriers writing these, but I am finding an awful difficult time finding one for a late model Viper. Other carriers like Haggerty want to put exclusions like no driving to work, limit you as the ONLY insured driver, or the like.

I have Nationwide and the same clause. I was told by my agent not to make mention of any mods but to keep a list and pictures of the viper in case of a total lose so as to get the highest reimbursement. I have been with them for 40 years.

Wow... I saw that you posted in the main menu view, and I honestly thought "damn, I wish there was a way to block people from posting on your threads, Robby never says **** worth a damn"

I am pleasantly suprised, and admit I am wrong. I think you hit the nail on the head, just keep my receipts and if the car gets totalled show them all of them, and hope for the best. Showing my cards before hand might just make them say "no, sorry thats not covered, or not allowed...etc.." Its better to ask for forgiveness after the fact then approval.

I'm going to call to cancel my appointment for them to review my car.

Thanks,

Jon

I have had cars and bikes stolen and the above has always worked for me with nationwide. The real important part is to have a great re-pore with you agent who should be working with your best interest in mind as he wants your repeat business and commissions.

Jon, I,ve been with Nationwide for over thirty years. When I totaled my '97 B/W last year at an event that was considered a performance driving school, they paid the claim with no problems. The only issue was the value of the car. They initially offered a NADA value, but after a hugh laugh and denial from me, I was instructed to supply them with various listings around the country of what these vehicles were selling for. To make this story shorter, with the help of JonB and Bernie Katz, who both sent letters to support a higher value, Nationwide paid a reasonable amount for the car. As far as the 10K worth of mods on the car, I was informed that they would "NOT" pay for any aftermarket parts or add-ons, and that I was free to remove any of these items as long as a stock or replacement item was installed in its place. There was, in fact, a conversation that some of these aftermarket parts were performance enhancing parts, but that didn't affect the claim at all. So I wouldn't worry about your Paxton. Heck, the new Mustangs come with Superchargers stock.

PS. Ya missing NC yet?

Good point as stated above. On my Harley they totaled it and told me to remove and keep anything I wanted. When I questioned anything they told me if all that was left was a frame then that was ok. They paid the claim.
