One of the plastic tab pieces that holds the metal air box clips in place is broken. Now, the clip will not stay in place and falls off. It seems like these little plastic tabs are quite fragile and susceptible to breaking.
I am sure that many before me have had this happen. What is the fix to remedy this problem?
thanks!

I take it its on your 2001? Get the dealer to order you a new airbox first. Not sure but sounds like you are talking about the medal clips and the part that holds the clips onto the airbox. The chevrolet dealer make the exact part for a whole lot less. Do a search for the airbox clips and there is a number for the clips at the chevy dealer. As far as fixing the piece that holds the medal clip I have heard some folks try silicone to hold the clips to the airbox but that didnt work on my gen 1.

Assuming the broken clip is in a non conspicuous area and the box NOT under warranty....

Here's another simple fix:

Drill a small hole in both halfs of the box.
Use a small tie wrap/plastic tie and zip both ends together.

Not the best looking way.... but will work for sure

Hope this helps,

Here's another way to fix this problem. Find a .025 in. drill bit and some .025 in. aircraft safety wire. Drill a hole on each side of the pivot pin, into the airbox for each latch, (4 total holes per latch). Run the saftey wire over the pin and twist tie it inside the airbox,(two wires per latch). If you do this to each clip, they will never come off again. Reid Tool Supply will have the drill bits,(800-253-0421). Get the stainless safety wire at Aircraft Supply,800-569-9397. I have done this to my 97 GTS airbox and it works very well. Jerry Scott

This is very common. We see it a lot, especially with aftermarket air filters. New air box is the fix. Like Doug says, you can drill the corners and install zip ties in the corners. That's how mine's done. Technically the air box wouldn't be coverd if it had non-factory filters installed. The aftermarket ones have a thicker seal than stock.dj
