Living in Socal myself the rates are a little high, gulp,,,, what you might do is get a policy for a limited number of miles a year, I have that on my Prowler.

Man, I haven't checked yet for insurance but I do have 5 cars. hope it's lower than your deal, good luck.

You might want to check some of these places that insure older and rare cars, you might geta deal. http://www.hotrodders.com/directory/hot_rod_services/hot_rod_insurance/ try here

Hope this helps

Sounds like you need to do some shopping and maybe take your $$$ elsewhere. I'm 30 and they only stuck me with $1250 per year on my 1998. 2001 shouldnt make $4550 difference.. Try your local State Farm agent

I had Mercury right up until I bought my Viper. After I got their quote to add the Viper to my policy I went shopping. I finally settled on Nationwide as they were less than half of what Mercury was quoting.

50,000 property damage/100,000/300,000 bodily injury and 250/500 deductable for comp/collision. This is with USAA, one of the top three insurance companies in the states.

You definitely want to shop your insurance around. Rates vary greatly between companies and locales. As others have suggested, try State Farm and Nationwide. My State Farm rate was $1100/year less than Progressive and $2000/year less than AllState. Transferring my homeowners policy to State Farm reduced my auto policy another 10%.

I was getting quotes for over 5,000 a year for a viper driven only 4,000 miles a year when thinking about getting the car. I'm a 23 year old single male so I pretty much expected that the price would be high. In a moment of weakness I bought a Viper during my lunch break. I called my insurance agent expecting him to drop the bomb on me. It turns out I am paying only 800 a year for my Viper now. It really helped that I have another car insured under him that I use as a daily driver.

Agent "So I didn't know the Vipers had 10 cylinders."

Me "Uh, yeah it does."

Agent "So it must be pretty quick."

Me "It has a little pep"

Agent "What color is it?"

Me "Reddish. It's red."

Agent "It must really stick out."

Me "A little I guess."

Agent "Can you bring it by my office? I would like to see it sometime."

Me "Do you promise not to raise my rates when you see it?"

So I brought the car by and my agent said that if I ever planned to sell it he wanted to buy it. He actually jumped back when I started the car. BTW, thanks again JonB for the high flow cats and Belanger exhaust!

This had pretty much been beaten to death, but just this week ironically my wife called Mercury on a recommendation from a friend about their great rates...Well, same story, their rates on our other cars were slightly better (5-10%) but they wanted about 5K for my 96 RT/10, every 6 months...

Needless to say I am staying with state Farm, I pay ~ $400 per month, and I have my house ins with them too.

I'm also with State Farm, $1200/yr for full coverage (250K/500K coverage, $100/$500 deductables) for each of our Vipers. I've had two claims in the past year (destroyed a motorcycle at Buttonwillow raceway = $14,000, friend ran my M3 into a guardrail = $15,000) and they never twitched or raised my rates. Give 'em a call!

I just got a quote from Mercury for my 01 GTS. Nearly $5,800 (not a typo) per year... can you belive it??? I'm 44, have a clean record (no tickets or accidents), own my home, live and work in a safe area. Mercury presently insures my other cars (96 Z3 and 01 Boxster S) and my house. For comparison, my Z3 costs around $500/year and Boxster S around $600/year. What gives?

Allstate, 43yrs old, clean record, $950/yr. However, when I got my new '01 they said "Oh, we don't insure vipers anymore, but since it's a carry-over from your previous viper we'll still cover you." Very bad vibes here, sounds like their lawyers are crouching and ready to spring should anyone try to submit a viper claim. I'm gonna switch to another carrier with a limited mileage fixed value policy.

Anyone else heard of insurance companies dropping viper coverage?

$660 from Nationwide for San Jose, CA location. I was expecting a shock when I traded up from a Supra TT at $550, but was pleasantly surprised. My wife has 2 accidents(uninsured motorists!) and our total for 3 > $30K cars is around 1400.

100/300 liability
Comp/coll w/ $1000 deductible
Low mileage (<8000/yr) discount - no seasonal requirements
3 cars total
Uninsured motorist deducible exemption - this is critical - pay around $10 more, save $100s by jacking up your collision deductible and don't pay anything if you are hit by an uninsured idiot
