Need **** garage floor to match Viper

So my wife and I are in the middle of buying a new house (moving from Hoboken, NJ to a town called Armonk in NY State), and from an apartment building to a house with a 3 car garage. Only problem is the garage has an ugly dirty concrete floor and I want to turn the garage into a beautiful place to keep my Viper. Do any of you guys have any recommendations (especially anyone in the Northeast and in New York State) of any reputable companies or people who do a great job of installing one of those great epoxy floors with flakes of rubber colors in them? It seems there is a huge difference from one company to the other in terms of quality, and also what is a rough idea on pricing for the whole installation? Not looking to do anything totally out there as my wife likely won't allow it, but want something that will be very presentable befitting a budding car collection. Pics of your own garages with this done will be helpful to see as well, so please share if you have pics of your garages as I want to get ideas.

Next question afterwards will be for a nice cabinetry system, etc.....

Personally, I'd be looking into RaceDeck flooring, or something along those lines. The house I bought had an epoxy floor put down, and it is coming up in multiple areas. Looked good for a while, but it's really starting to look like garbage.

For cabinets, I like Lista...not cheap by any stretch, but they are very well built, and can be configured any way you want.

Check out premier garage. Even if you don't use them, their site has some great ideas for flooring and storage. I really like their idea of floating lower cabinets.

I put down some U Coat It myself when my garage was empty and like it, but I wouldn't call my job show quality or anything. I just went with straight color, I didn't do any flakes or anything because I just didn't want to deal with it. I figured with my luck I'd probably get them all clumped together or something. All in all though it seemed like a pretty tough floor. Did some lighter work like removing a rebuilding a power steering pump on my 71 Vette and basic oil change stuff on cars. It seemed to hold up pretty well to jacks and jackstands. The really nice part is that it just wipes clean. The main issue with putting them down is just having a really well prepped surface. I'm not sure I did a good enough job in some places, so if it peeled at certain spots I wouldn't be surprised. The older the floor the more likely it's going to have a lot of junk in it to try to clean/degrease. My floor was only about 10 years old, so it wasn't too bad.

I've had mine for years and it is GREAT!

I did a lot of research before I started the garage project, and the "special" floor paints are a joke. From what I've heard from people, no matter how well you prep the floor, it will eventually peel. Sure it has a warranty, but all they have to say is, "you didn't prep the floor correctly". Warranty claim DENIED.

Do you guys with Race Deck do much work in your garages? I'm kind of curious how it holds up to too abuse and fluids. We had something like that with my Formula SAE team in college, but it got pretty dirty and had a diamond plate like texture on it. I wouldn't want to be rolling around under a car with that digging into my back. We managed to clean up the surface okay with some cleaner, but I would think it would make a mess under the tiles if you have fluid dripping between the cracks.

Racedeck blows! Especially if you work on your car! I jacked one side of my car up and now have divots in each of the tiles from the floor jack. Jack stands don't work, if the feet of the jack stand aren't covered with a rubber foot or something, it'll cut right through your tile! I made the mistake od trying to put a piece of plywood under a jack, if your car isn't balanced over the jack, it becomes very slippery. If you get the glossy like I have, it's impossible to keep looking showroom new. You can clean and even polish it, then the first time you walk over it or drove on it, you have footprints and tire treads from dust and dirt. Part of my garage is a shop, saw dust will scratch the surface of the tile, especially if you let it sit a day and/or walk on it, you can't use anything abrasive to clean up spills and even latex paints are near imposssible to get up! I haven't pulled up the tiles to see how liquid proof they are. I would go with a porcelain or ceramic tile. I had epoxy before, never had a problem with it peeling or coming up, but it did yellow in areas exposed to uv light.

That looks like some good stuff. Never been a fan of any tile system. Do an real work in the garage it just will not work out for you. Fluids, jacks, abuse etc.

My vote goes with an epoxy floor as it should hold up best if you actually perform work in the garage. Though preparation is the key to making an epoxy floor perform without flaking and I definitely recommend using an industrial grade coating. I plan to coat my floor this spring and will probably end up using TK products as they work very well and pricing is reasonable.

Very much agree about the Racedeck floors. They are expensive and mostly for show garage queen cars. Last year I had my oversized 2 car garage floor professionally prepped/washed then custom painted with a concrete floor specific paint and accent flakes for 1200.00. It has withstood jacks etc. and still looks new. No chipping or dust either.

I had a company come in and grind and polish my cement floor in my old house it was great never a worry apout anything on the floor. It was super easy to roll around on a creeper and clean. I will have this done again in my new garage when it is finished.

We purchase our epoxy materials from Legacy Industrial. I'm in PA and it ships right away. Preparation is critical.

Not sure about contractors as I did my epoxy floor myself. But, cost for materials ran about $800 for my 24x25' two car garage. The products I used were from sherwin Williams. If you want a breakdown of what is needed, let me know. If I had to guess a price from contractors.... Around 3k. It is a two day project.

I am not sure about contractors in your area but the material I would recommend is TK products and if you would like some pricing send me a PM and I can quote the materials needed as well as provide information on the prep that would be needed to make sure that the coating bonds to the concrete.

One of the first things to check on your current floor is to check to see if it has already had a sealer put on it. If it has had a sealer you will need to remove it using a scarifier. If it does not have a sealer then you should be able to prep the floor using muriatic acid to etch the floor. As mentioned above the prep is key to making the floor properly bond to the concrete.

I'd have to agrree, I previously thought..... No way I can buy Racedeck flooring...BUT after seeing this thread and checking bigfloors.com as someone suggested, I think I am about the pull the trigger and do one side of my garage (other side is my gym floor heavy duty mats for weights). Probably be doing the floor in Black/Silver Checkers. I think it's going to cost me about $225 estimated per parking spot in my garage. I LOVE that it snaps together and when I MOVE I can take it with me!!!!! This is awesome! Man I have missed this site!
