I've been kinda fed up lately about some peoples reactions to the car. I have driven and owned nice cars before but the viper seems to take the cake for the hate responses. I've had the usual stare downs and other typical reactions (not letting you merge) but the ones experianced within the last week were a bit different.

Yesterday, I was parked legally in a lane while I was in the store that the parking was for. When I came back I found a nice big spit stain right on the hood. Now that really ****** me off - when people don't respect another persons property, especially their car, and think that some bodily fluids is necessary because of jealousy, or whatever reason.

Two days ago, I turned off of a 2 lane semi-busy street (for Vancouver) onto another similar street. This turn was typical, I wasn't speeding, no pedestrians crossing etc. so no wrong doing was conducted. So I drive down a block or so and I hear this honk from behind me and this mid aged guy leans out his window, shouts about 4 words (all I understood was A**hole and f*** you) and proceeds to finger me like he is the man. So I motion for him to come towards me (I wanted to know what pissed him off) but he turns off the street. I decide to follow him and for about 10 minutes he avoids me being able to pull up next to him and keeps trying to shake me by turning a lot. I eventually gave up.

What is it with all these people drinking the haterade? Have you guys had any similar situations or is it just that Canadians dont like the Viper? lol

It's funny you bring this up I was talking to a friend the other day after
giving him a ride and don't get me wrong because there are a lot of people
that love to see this car on the road. But there are a lot of A-holes out
there. I had it so bad one time that these people were trying to run me off
the road and try to rear end me and just get to close to the car.
And then there are the people that come up to you just to tell you that
there 85 Geo is paid for.

I just don't get it!

I had someone spit on the doorhandle of my hummer once and another time I had someone use lipstick on 2000 gts and write "homo" on the rear glass.

The dummies that do or act like that over a car well that says alot about what their parents did wrong in rasing them.

I'd rather be hated, than a hater if its because of my cars.... That means I am doing something right.

Maybe if these people made themselves a little more useful to society they would be remunerated a little better and could afford these things they "hate" so much.

"Drinking the Haterade" That's classic.

Everyone

I think some of the people who do these things to the car are those "tree hugger" people. I guess they feel the need to express themselves every time they see something drinking a little more gas then their insight. Anyway, I would be very angry just as you guys are. What would you guys do if you actually caught the person spitting or writing "HOMO" on your Viper?

If it were me, I would say..

Judge, I was temporarily insane, my insurance will pay for all the cosmetic surgery needed.

Yeah its true I get tones of people who come up to the car and ask about it and complement it and such, and I’m more than happy to talk to them about it, let them look at it, pop the hood etc. because I love cars and would like the same thing if I approached say a Lamborghini owner and wanted to chat them up about their car. So I just don’t get the people who hate for stupid reasons…

VD is right, I’d rather be hated than the hater…

Viper52USA – I love that phrase hahah… If I caught a person doin something unfavourable to my car, I would lose it. I always wish I would just catch someone in the act, and your response pretty much sums up what I, and I think most people would do. Maybe I’ll bait the car and wait around somewhere where I can see what happens and then ambush the offender… oh yeah that would be sweet.

I get the same. Either people love the car or absolutely hate it. I think ths split is 70/30 in favor of LOVE.

My feeling is that people get angy because they don't have the means and feel that others flaunt their own means before them. It isn't like we caught a pass in the end zone and spiked it in their face, but I can understand. Some folks are just made at the world. I hope they get over it someday... Life is way too short.

I have never experienced anything like that here in Toronto. Driving through the nightclub you can hear people whispering to their friends "look a viper, viper!" etc. Nothing but good comments. Where in Canada are you? Wanna sell your 348? ;)

I have always received 99% favorable reactions to the Vipers. Maybe it is a Midwest thing and the fact that there are a LOT of nice cars around here. However, you need to understand that some people view a car as an extension of a person's arrogance - right or wrong. Most don't understand what a blast the Viper is to drive and often think it is "just some rich bastard."

The Hummer H2 is a prime example, as it is pure "bling" on an impractical SUV with less room and worse gas mileage than a comparable Suburban. Don't get me wrong, I love the looks of the H2 and would love to have one in black myself. But this quote from Lewis Black sums up the feelings of more than a few folks: "For the same amount of money you'd pay for the Hummer, you could just take out a billboard in Times Square that says 'Look at me! I'm a dick!'" I think Conan O'Brien ran a similar skit, complete with said billboard.

Unfortunately, some folks feel the same way about ANY exotic car, including the Viper. They never realize that many owners are just working stiffs that saved up to buy an incredible sports car, or are making giant loan payments just to have some serious fun on the weekends. Thus the bitter bottles of Haterade...

This has always been a problem, It burns me up but I try hard to remember that these folks have much larger problems than I do. All in all though most folks are very favorable and although it is sometimes a burden to always be gracious to all I know it is the right thing to do. I dont even want to give anyone a reason to be negative towards our snakes.

I get jealous comments while driving both the H2 and the Viper. The Viper more though. In regards to gas mileage the Hummer gets nearly the same gas mileage. Besides who buys a Hummer and worries about gas prices/mileage? I get flipped off so much anymore i'm thinking I should just flip-off everyone I make eye contact with on the road. I live in a town of only 65,000 people so they are not use to seeing a vehicle that's worth more than the home there living in.

In Pittsburgh it goes like this:

When people are sober, I get very positive comments. Nearly 100%. This car is so rare it is ridiculous. I've only seen about 10 on the road in since 1992.

If I cruise threw the nightlife areas late at night, mixed reactions. Still, 80% positive, but you have those people that can't handle a couple beers and act like a total ball-sack. The exact reason I try not to park my Viper in these areas during drinking hours.

I ran into a jealous kid working at Taco Bell Last month.

My brother I and Drove Our vipers (srt-10 & rt-10) to get lunch at taco bell. Of course we parked right next to each other. Everyone Came out to look at the cars. There were people from kraigens, people walking by, driving by.. all stop to look at the vipers. Felt like celebrities lol. We couldn't eat without someone coming up to us. While inside the taco bell we over heard some worker saying "OMG they have the same car how *** is that"etc etc. We ended up in a lil altercation but in the end, me and my bro just laugh because everyone in the store knew that kid was just totally jealous. I think because my brother and I are about the same age as this kid and that made him hate us even more.

Yikes! If the whole town has homes of lesser value than an H2 then I think you have more to be concerned about. Most in this area have well more than that in their landscaping (not including decks, pools, etc of course).

Not sure where everyone here lives, but the car is fairly rare here in southern California too. I haven't had a negative comment on it yet (6 months), all have been positive and most are very positive.

On the "homefront", most of the homes here you'd be willing to live in start at 750K.

Finallny,I see many more Mercedes SL 55's, Turbo Porsches, Ferari's and even Lamborghini's than Vipers.

I have never had a negative reaction to my car, and I live in one of the most politically correct, tree-hugging spots in the nation (the People's Republic of Boulder.)

I get positive reactions all the time, particularly from younger folks. I had a guy climb half way out of his pickup truck (passenger side) and hang out of the truck as he passed by so he could get a better look at the Viper, giving me a huge grin and the thumbs-up. I get positive reactions just about every time I drive the car.

I do get people constantly wanting me to race them on the street. I can't tell you how many times I've had some guy pull up next to me and start revving, usually in the middle of town, in traffic. I guess they are just clueless. They probably don't realize that if I really got on the throttle, that I'd be running into those cars in front of us, even though they appear to be a comfortable distance away. I've had a few people react negatively when I declined to street race with them.

My H2 was 65,000. It has every available option from the factory. Air-ride,height adjuster,3rd row seating, chrome package,sunroof,nerf-bars/rack,built-in air compressor just to name a few options. :D The average house is around 60,000 here. Cost of living is pretty low here. There are a fair amount of trailer trash in our area also. I'm assuming most of my flip-offs are from trailer trash anyway, judging from the rides there in while giving me the bird.

Just last night while leaving from my fantasy football draft I had a hot woman sitting between 2 guys in a Dodge truck tell me she loved me. Price-less.

The Viper, Prowler, And Qvale all get positive reactions. Especially the Qvale! People look and have no idea what it is.(only 267 made)I only had 1 person write on the prowler with lipstick! (At the Golf course?) Living in CT 65 miles from NYC you see just about every car there is. Mercedes are a dime a doz, as are porsches. You don't see many Vipers! Jealousy is a wicked thing! I have all those kids in there *** Tuners pull along side and want to race. Last time i raced one i was in My jaguar S-Type-R 400 HP No contest! I don't take my cars out to Bars, your just looking for trouble. They stole the front grill off my S-Type! Only Bar I take my Cars to is a local biker bar, They love to look at the Prowler and Viper and show me there Harleys! They have respect for others property and seem to care less if you have more then they do. I was in Toronto the last week in July for a prowler Club event.(40) They got lots of attention all positive. I was even interviewed along with 6 others on your local version of good morning America. :D

Wow, lots of stories here, keep em comin.

In Vancouver there are a lot of asian kids with suped up import cars that ALWYAS want to race. When I first got the car I played with them a bit, but now its just too easy so I don't bother. They always have positive reactions to the car though. Whenever I see anyone lookin at it or display the mouth open pointing reaction, I simply give them the rock on hand sign and a nice grin. Gotta love the rare factor of the viper.

on the flip side............... there are some real assholes who have purcahsed vipers and drive them, etc. go over to [******] the other viper web site and you will see what i am talking about. i even know this guy here in my hometown who owns three vipers and he is the biggest **** in town, and everybody says so. his head is so big he can't even get thru a doorway. people like this give the viper a real black eye. it gets stereotyped as the car for people with short mans complex or short dick syndrome.

i bought my viper because i love the car for what it is. i did not buy my car to show off. most of the time when i drive my viper i avoid the city and take it out on roads way out in the middle of no where for two reasons. #1 - i like to haul ass and do not want cops coming after me. #2 - i do not want a bunch of unwanted attention.

I get mostly positive comments; say 95+%. I have noticed however, when I take a Viper to the local neighborhood Saturday night cruise meet it doesn't get as much attention as the Mustang. And when I take a Viper to Gratton (track in mid Michigan) on Memorial Day I feel ignored. In the group are Mustangs, Vettes, Pssats, Alfa Romeos; a whole mix of cars. I don't think they understand I am just one of them, out to have a fun day. Perhaps jealousy is at play.
