ok ladies and gents. lets get started. please take your seats. thank you.

todays lesson, is about posting pics within threads in the new forum.

posting a pic within a thread in the new forums is VERY SIMILAR to what you did in the old forum.

first. find the pic you want to insert in the thread.

RIGHT CLICK on the picture with your mouse, and a menu will come up. go down to the bottom and LEFT CLICK on "properties". a PROPERTIES window will come up. LEFT CLICK and highlight the URL ADDRESS. now RIGHT CLICK, and click COPY. you have now put that URL address into your computers memory. close that window.

look at this address.

http://gallery.viperclub.org/data/500/thumbs/new_b.JPG

this address goes to this picture:

new_b.JPG

look at this address.

http://gallery.viperclub.org/data/500/medium/new_b.JPG

this address goes to this picture:

new_b.JPG

THEY ARE THE SAME PIC, arent they? but notice they have DIFFERENT URL ADDRESSES.

if you copy the URL address for a small pic, you will get a SMALL PIC.
if you copy the URL address for a big pic, you will get a BIG pic.

OK?

to add the pic you have chosen into a thread in the new forum, you will need to be in the "REPLY TO THREAD" screen. (that is the scren with all the smiley faces on it.)

look for THIS ICON:
insertimage.gif
(insert image)

click on this icon and another window will pop up. that window wants to know the URL ADDRESS of the photo you are trying to insert. you copied that earlier, remember?

delete everything in the box, then RIGHT CLICK, and click "paste" to insert the address you copied earlier. click "OK".

go down to the bottom and click on "Preview Post". you should see your image!

AGAIN, the process is VERY SIMILAR to what you did before, you just have to make sure to click on the right icon.

hope this helps some of you. GOOD LUCK!

Or you could just look under the image in the media gallery and click on the BBCODE box which gives you the IMG tag already filled in with the photo url to copy and paste directly into your post.

YEP-PER! there are definately different ways to accomplish the same thing here.

it all takes practice and spending a little time playing around the site. a few techniques have been described here, and they all work just fine. if you are having problems, i encourage everyone play with each technique and use the one you are comfortable with!

Here's a little I added in another thread...

What is the best siza and dpi for uploading? I have uploaded different sizes and dpi but when I try to post them they post loke a small thumnail. What am I doing wrong?????
Thanks
Rob
It shouldn't make a difference what size you upload, whether it be "high def" or a thumbnail as the Gallery will give you different size options once uploaded. Once you upload your picture the first thing you will see are thumbnails of everything you uploaded. Click on that thumbnail and you will get a screen with a "medium" sized picture, assuming it was a larger one to begin with. That screen also shows you the other size available (you can click the picture or the size and it will come up). Most importantly, it gives you the actual code to insert right in your post if you wish:

photos.jpg

Notice that if it is a "medium" picture (smaller than the orginal) it will say so right in the URL itself. The ORIGINAL picture (no matter what size) will not show "medium" in the url. Indeed, if you "copy and paste" the url of your thumbnail picture you will see "thumbs" in that same spot. The Gallery basically has folders for each size - thumbs, medium, and originals. If your image isn't that big it won't create a "medium" file as it is already sized well for viewing there and in the forums. In other words, if your picture is huge (like the original of the one above), PLEASE post the "medium" version to keep people from having to scroll back and forth to see it.

Hope this helps!

I think I did it correctly:

1. Went to My Photos
2. Selected a Photo (thumbnail) - Brings up large photo
3. Selected Edit Photo below the Photo
4. Went to the bottom where it says Delete
( (CAREFUL - once it's gone it's gone)
5. Then Submit Changes

I now see that the "Edit Photo" is in the "Admin Options"

Later,

OK, I got this with posting pictures but I am haveing some issues. Once I link one picture I can not hit the enter key and enter another picture just after the one I inserted.
What I am doing now is when I insert the first picture I make sure I hit the enter key a few times and insert my last picture first. Then I go to the blank line just before the inserted picture and I insert the next to last picture. So on and so forth. At this point I must make sure I have enough blank lines before my last picture posted to post another picture. Hense inserting all my pictures from last to first.

What am I doing wrong? Or why can I not insert anything after a picture I just posted?

Here's another for ya Big. I got the messge "We're sorry, but you currently are over your quota for allowed disk space. Please remove images from your gallery to free up more space." Before the new pages we had unlimted space if you were a VCA member. Has this changed or is this a bug? Assuming there are limits now can someone tell us what those limits are? Thanks!

Got the note and am sorry to say that we currently have a limit of 75 MB for members and 3 MB for guests. Here is the cheat sheet:

http://forums.viperclub.org/announcement.php?f=168

Batboy, you currently have 135 MB of photos uploaded, thus the note. Now the question becomes this: How much space is enough? Unlimited is a little crazy as we have to pay for that space and the bandwidth to deliver it. But not impossible. Thoughts?

Mine is way over the limit too. How do you clean them all out? Is there a delete button for all of them at once?

I don't know if you have that option as an individual user, but the admins can delete them all at once for you. PM me if you would like that done...

There is a way to delete but it's a bit tedious. Perhaps that's the intent to avoid mistakes. Anyway, go into the image you want to delete. At the bottom there is a box to check if you want to delete. Then hit submit.

As for the limits I wholeheartedly agree that there should be one. I was always surprised we didn't have one. What the limit should be should probably be determined by how much space is available and divide by some number (based on the number of VCA members and forum members). As for me since I'm at 135 MB I think the limit should be around 150 MB. ;)

Your pic posting ability is NOT gone, we simply won't be hosting 100 MB of photos for "guests". We are nice guys (and gals) to be sure, but we simply cannot afford to become a free host for everybody's photo albums. Just remember that as a Viper owner you can easily become a VCA member which provides you with a ridiculous amount of benefits:
  • Subscription to VIPER magazine with 1st Class postage ($42 value)
  • Free liability insurance at all official VCA events
  • Subscription to VCA Notes
  • Access to exclusive raffles such as the ASC/McLaren Diamondback Viper
  • Access to "previews" and other special Viper announcements
  • Special exclusive options possibly available on new car purchases (in development)
  • Mulroney window sticker reprints from the factory (in development)
  • Regional benefits such as local cruises, dinners, etc.
  • Regional newsletters
  • Regional "freebies" that many clubs offer such as Dyno Day, parties, etc.
  • Conner Avenue Assembly Plant Tours
Not enough for your $100? Well, here are the benefits you get here on the forums as a paid VCA member:
  • Posting privileges in all general Viper Forums
  • Posting & viewing privileges in VCA Members forum
  • Posting privileges in VCA Regional forums
  • Posting privileges in VCA Viper Events and Gatherings forum
  • Ability to upload and display personal avatar (Vipers only please)
  • Ability to write and use personal signature for all posts
  • Gallery privileges up to 100 MB of uploads
  • Up to 5000 Private Messages allowed
  • FREE Classified ad posting
  • Access to exclusive SRT merchandise in VCA Members forum
  • Future exclusives such as VCA private auctions, online renewals, and much more!
The bottom line is that if you are a Viper Owner and are not a VCA Member, you should really consider it seriously. The club is VERY serious about you!

Call VCA HQ at 800-677-4321 and get your VCA membership renewed over the phone. Be sure to verify your individual VCA membership number as well. Then click this link:

http://www.viperclub.org/vca/diamondbackraffle.pdf

Print up the form (second page) and once completed, FAX it to 248-553-2138 - ticket orders cannot be taken over the phone due to legal reasons. I just checked with VCA HQ and only 200 tickets remain, so better do it quick!

Oh yeah, and drop me a PM with your membership number and I will get you fixed up on the boards as well so that you can enjoy ALL these forums have to offer!

On another note, who do we contact to get our status changed from Enthusiast to Owner? I was an owner on the old forum, but not here. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
