I believe I posted a detailed explanation on one of the earlier posts, but basically you have two dials that you turn (with a tiny screwdriver) to control the RPM's. It can handle anywhere from 0 - 19,000 RPMS, I believe. There's a good picture of the dials on their website:

Is there a way to add a switch to toggle the unit off and on when you don't want it? I'd rather do that than just put on the black cap over the light.
By the way, with everyone ordering a shift light, used Viper buyers are going to think they were standard equipment!

Hisserman - Having run an autometer shift light in the past, it is easy to install a switch in the power feed for on/off. This way you can turn it off anytime you want.
I'm not sure how often you wind up your car to 5400 or 5600rpm, but if your shift point is set that high, you won't have to worry about triggering it that often...

I thought about doing that, but realized that during normal driving, I never rev the engine past 5,000-5,500 RPM's. If people wanted to have full control, it wouldn't be hard to wire a switch inline with the power lead that connects to the fusebox. Then, you could just reach down and flick it on and off.
