This should help. Going to drain and fill the system a couple times with tap water. Flush with deionized. Any suggestions on conventional coolant.
The peak global lifetime or the or zerek G05? Both seem like winners.
Might smear a little gray rtv/hondabond on the gasket prior to install.

On new builds or when i've flushed the system and don't want to use OEM for whatever reason I use Prestone all vehicle pre-mixed green ... I've been using it for over 20yrs and 15 vehicles with no issues.

Now's a good time to try something. I have thought about purchasing a Gen 1 pump with metal impeller and pressing out the impeller and bearings to "rebuild" my Gen 2 pump.

Anyone ever done this and been successful?

I've got my old gen 2 pump, so I may give this a shot.

I've been using dexcool in mine for over 6 years. change it every 2 years. Its essentially Mopar orange, even says it works with newer Dodges on the bottle.

Get some cometic aluminum core gaskets. No need for RTV.

this. Either RTV or gasket. I never get why people use both. Both work better alone imo

This is exactly what I did, except I used the FlowKooler impeller. Better than new.

so the pump had low mileage and instead of a long turn around time I decide to wing it while saving some money at a risk by swapping a new impeller.
does swapping the guts from a gen1 work just the same on either impeller shaft diameter pump housing, or is it just the shaft that is different?

I was out of town, just got back late last night. I had it all buttoned up minus that heater hose which I should have time to address today then its time to fill her up with water and flush as much of the old Evans crap out as I can.
any suggestion to this, when I had the rad out for cleaning I should have messed with the petcock, and totally forgot. Is it worth attempting that route or just pop the lower hose and call it a day?
also just planned to run it for a few minutes up to operating temp let it cool, drain/fill and then add some coolant + deionized water and hopefully be done.

Ran the vehicle a little hot, gave her a few throttle blips, Gauge read cold, PCM read hot. Likely an air pocket still. Shut her down burped the system, took nearly 3 gallons of the freshest lake Michigan water. Going to let it cool drain and redo the whole thing.
Grabbed some peak global lifetime coolant and will be running some deionized water through prior.
No leaks & the pumps pumping. Question regarding the silicone hoses, seems tight does this upper hose need to be inverted? It was the best way it'd clear the air box.
Again thanks for all the help, can't wait to get this thing back on the road.
Oh, and I have a worm gear clamp in place of that old loosened crimp clamp. Is there something you'd suggest otherwise, I'll be draining it anyway so nows the time if it's a spring style.

All pretty in line with each other. All that BS in the cooling system is tiny pieces of water pump impeller, which I'm sure is good for it.

Cangrats on the fix, Dan deserves a heartfelt thank you for a simple test / diagnosis.
Of course. Thanks to everyone that posted, I appreciate all of the input and suggestions. Given the mileage on the pump I was surprised. Being inexperience with these cars couldn't believe it had failed so prematurely.

Still have got to figure out the relay issue and actually pressurize the system with coolant to be certain were good, but its looking like it. I should have some time later on today to drain and fill the cooling system.
