Took delivery of my SRT-10 in mid April and just getting around to saying Hello to everyone. This is my first Viper, converted from Z06 then 911 C4S. Only modification is the K&N kit from Parts Rack.

Welcome! So what are your impressions vs. your previous two cars? Always interested to see what other folks think when they make the leap. Oh, and be sure to hook up with the local Viper Club to see what they have going. Could be fun!

Let me start by saying that I'm not a driving expert, AND I'm not much of a writer, so take my comparison for what its worth...

I've always been a fan of the Corvette. The Z06 was a very nice car, and relatively inexpensive. The biggest differences in the cars for me are torque and steering. The Viper has tons of power in practically every gear at nearly every rpm. The Z also has great power, but it responds better in the upper rpm range. Also, I didn't have to think about driving the car as much as I do the Viper. I guess the Z06 seemed more civil, if that makes sense? I went from the Z to the 996. Same thing, less power, much better fit/finish, smoothest transmission of anything I've ever driven. Ultimately though, just too refined for my tastes.

I never thought I'd have so much fun driving a car as I do in the Viper. I can see why so many Viper owners have more than one. After I finish my nut/bolt restoration of my 62, I may look into getting a GTS. In the meantime, I'll definitely want to do the VOI next year and go to driving schools if we have any available to us.

Congrats on getting your SRT-10, sounds like you are already having much fun! Oh, I noticed you've gone with the K&N setup so you're probably into mods. Don't forget the 3.55 gears...you won't be disappointed. Cheers! :2tu:

Thanks for the review! I had a '63 split window (actually two of them) and the '62 is one of my faves. You definitely can't go wrong with the GTS, which has an even higher gawk factor.

As to the Viper Owner Invitational, I would very strongly recommend you try to make it this year if you get the chance. For one, it isn't as far from you as it would be if it were in California or someplace else out west (which it most likely will be). Second, the VOI's are held every other year and not every year - so nothing again until 2006 at the earliest. Also note that VOI's are usually in some sort of jeopardy for the future based on whether DC sees the value and continues to support them. While the registration fee is steep for the individuals, rest assured that there are a LOT more expenses (and support) that only DC can cover. I don't know of any other manufacturer that does this, unless there is a similar event in Italy. Bottom line: Try and get to this one if you can!

I bought my 04 last month and agree with you on your statements. My Corvette was fun to drive, but not as much fun as my Viper. I tried to explain it to my wife. We cruised in the vette, but I have to drive the Viper. Ditto on the 3.55's, you'll love them. Installed the K & N's last week. In to DC performance today for Corsa Track cat back. Heat shields on the headers tomorrow, aluminum flywheel next? Welcome.

So where do I get the 3.55 gears? Any suggestions on where to get the install done? Dealership?

Contact Ron at the Parts Rack 360-837-3937 for a great deal on your 3.55's
He may know of a local shop in Tenn to install. (He is the Viper Hookup !)

Congrats and welcome
