I have a 2000 GTS and inside the glove box between the two seats I found a second lock, which the ignition key works. The question is what is it for? I am not an idiot, but cant figure out what it does. I don't have an owners manual to tell me what it does (owners manual probably behind this locking mechanism!) Please Help!

Blue Pilot, there are no stupid questions here. I just read that page myself last night. It is to temporarily bypass the alarm. You turn the key either direction and remove. Then you can start the car. The system will reset itself after the engine has stopped. I think it is incase the remote battery goes dead.

It is a great ride eh??

What year did DC start putting that alarm lock in? I can not find one in my car and was wondering if it came in a later year.

I have had the remote batteries go dead twice. Both far from home. The manual says (on the RT-10) use the rear glass key to remove it, then reach inside to the manual 'emergency' door release to open the door. At this point, the security system thinks the car is being stolen and disables the ignition. The key in the console resets the alarm allowing you to drive to the nearest radio shack for new batteries.
