Actually ferrari just revealed their new mid-engined V8 powered creation to replace the F430. The all-new 458 Italia won't be shown in public until September's Frankfurt Motor Show the details were released early this morning. A new direct-injected 4.5-liter V8 ups the power ante it 570 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. Eighty percent of that torque is now available at an impressively low 3,250 rpm, thanks probably in part to the 12.5:1 compression ratio.

Sorry, but less that 400 foot-pounds of torque for a car making 570 HP?

It's probably a fantastic engineering feat...but 400 fp of torque at 3,250 rpm is certainly no feat. Combining it with a 9G rpm limit is.

But it's still going to cost more than twice the Viper engine and require 5 times the maintenance with less result. Thanks...but no thanks.

If they downsize the motor, Im not sure they will be able to produce the torque the current motor has. Im also scared to see what might happen to the price.
