Too bad it's a speeding ticket :( 38 in a 25...was visiting my dad on Father's Day. How much I love and hate technology lol:

Well that just blows. It is a nice pic though :) Is it standard for these type speeding tickets to not add points to your license and jack up your insurance rates? Or is that just a Maryland thing?

I didn't even know they did it...and it's the first time I've ever gotten a ticket in the mail. I guess since they can't prove who was driving, they can only give you a civil fee that doesn't add points or affect insurance rates.

I'm almost positive that if you contest it, you could win easily...but I'm no lawyer :)

Two witnesses are more powerful in court than a photo machine......got any friends who would vouch what you were doing at "that time"?

It was near Gaithersburg, MD. I agree with AFL in that it would be easy to get out of I think...but it's a $40 ticket with no points and nothing goes on my record....it's just not worth my time/gas to fight it.

You got that right. I just recently got a ticket from the VSP for expired tags (oops!) on my Charger. The ticket was $25....the processing fee is $51 and the local fee is $5...so the $25 ticket cost me $81. It's so ludicrous it's, well...ludicrous.

It doesn't even matter if you weren't behind the wheel, the car's registered owner is the one who gets fined. Purely a revenue source for the county, under the guise of "safety."

I don't know how legislation like this even gets passed. How can you accuse/fine an individual when you have no proof they were operating the vehicle in question?

Most of these cameras don't activate until you are 10mph over the limit. From what I read online, the fines for these tickets are pre-set no matter the speed. It looks like the fine is the same whether you are doing 38 in a 25 or 100 in a 25. Anyone know for sure?

It's worse than that. It's actually unconstitutional since you can't cross-examine a machine.

Forty bucks and no points?
Chicken feed. Pay it and move on.
Hell, I have four no front plates and they are $95.00 each. Just don't like how it looks.
Cost of doing business. :2tu:

I would love for some vigilante (sp?) type to declare war on those machines and use them for target practice with a grenade.

At least you dont get points! Over here its a diffrent story:( We would end up with 3points and a $135 fine:omg: The points are valid for 3 years but stay on your licence for 5 yrs, get 12 points and your banned for minimun 12 months. If you have a bald tyre its 3points, so if you had 4 bald tyres you could be banned:omg: And as for speed cameras there everywere over here. The latest thing the police are doing is putting speed cameras in horse trailers parked up at the side of the road, also there putting the cameras in builders vans with blacked out windows:(

Nice pictures.... also nice to see how our Dutch mister Gatso made it to the USA!
Be happy with a 40 dollar fine for 13 miles over.
This is 26 euro´s.... for 21 km/h in the Netherlands we would pay.... € 120,- this is
$ 180,-

You are one lucky guy!!!! ;):drive:;)

(Owning a Viper and living in the US....)

Nice pictures by the way... did they email them digitally to you?

They mailed me the letter...but it also has a website that you put the citation number and a pin in...and you can see the high res version of the pictures (which is where the one I posted is from)....it's actually pretty high res, I had to resize to post here.

Look at it this way, you paid $40.00 for a picture. I remember seeing one of these pictures floating around the internet where it takes the picture from the front. Low and behold there was a woman poking her head up from the guys lap.

I don't remember the specifics, but essentially they got busted cheating since the car was registered to one of their significant others.

I've been caught the same way in the UK, it's much worse there. Over hear I had a friend driving my BMW and he blew through a toll. I thought I'd argue it but they pressed me on who was driving the car since I didn't report it stolen. In the end, I got tagged for the fine $50 and court costs $182.

Pay the $40 and frame the picture.....

So here's what you do. Put on a dummy rear plate that says "F*** YOU" and speed through that same area at 100mph..... :2tu::rolaugh::D

We have speed and red light cameras in metro Phoenix, with more on the way. I wouldn't pay it. Throw it away if it wasn't sent registered or certified mail. If no one signed for it, how do they know you received it in the mail? In AZ if you are not "served" within 90 days of the ticket.....your off the hook. Check your local laws, but if it was me, and you didn't receive it by registered or certified mail......it's in file 13!!!

From what I understand, as a previous poster mentioned, the camera's don't activate until you are 11mph above the posted limit. I live in the county where the OP received the ticket (Montgomery Co.), and they are also using unmarked minivans (they say "Safe Speed" on the doors) to take pics. Thankfully (for lack of a better term), they are only in use to enforce speed limits of 35 mph or less in residential areas and school zones. For now... And the county does post a list on their website of all locations for "traffic enforcement activities."

You answered the question I was about to ask. Anybody know if this is just Montgomery county?
