I'm glad to hear you're ok. The weather has definitely been nice lately and I know a lot of guys in this area have been enjoying the weather. I hope you can find another car and get back into going fast. Not everyone gets that opportunity!

You are incredibly fortunate to be able to walk away from that. That's a true testament to the Viper design team. It's obvious (to me) that these cars demand the operators respect and full attention at all times. I'll be a new owner next week and I'm glad that I'm in my 50's. If I was in my 20's, Lord knows the stupid things that I might do with a car with these abilities. Let us know how it goes.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your car - but having your life intact and not being hurt is worth more! Glad you're ok - hope you get another Snake soon!

Glad you walked away...nice to see a happy ending after something that bad looking in the pics.

You might be a little more sore tomorrow...might still want to get checked out.

Good luck with everything,
George

It is like a capsule the way it stayed intact, It was 3 miles north of Troy, MO. Has Michelin pilot sport tires. Struck the wall going down hill in ditch and it tore the car to shreds.

I suspect they were the Zero-Pressure [Pilot Sport ZP] Run-Flat tires. Once they hit 3-4 years old, regardlesss of tread, they are pretty hard and almost traction-less compared to new tires. aka "Run-Crap" tires of certain infamy here on the forum. Easy to over-drive them.

Very glad you are intact, even if the Viper is not. Better a car insurance claim than life insurance.

Thank god you walked away! Looks like that may be the impetus for me to buy some new tires! Were you in it at all when you lost control?

Some of the Vendors on here I belive have been great helping members attain the correct value on their Vipers, good luck with your claim.

Looking at the Videos you were very lucky!

Glad to hear you're okay.
Herb, D!ck, and the folks certainly did a great job with the crumple zones; 60mph into solid granite at a 45 degree angle, and you walked away. Impressive.

From the video, it looks as though the pass. side front tire was considerably worn.
Couple that with the cold air temps (and colder at night), cold pavement, and so much torque the guys at Pirelli go "Damn!"....and the car becomes even more dangerous.

From personal experience, I know that it doesn't matter what tire you have on there when it's cold outside. Traction goes away in an instant, and trying to recover is no easy task.

Hopefully others learn from this as well.

Wow, man... Glad you are ok. I bet the tires were original. I almost learned that lesson the hard was once... Luckily I caught control before I landed in a ditch. Bought new tires next day. We are close, it has been warm here but the roads still have a lot of sand/debris on them from the winter so I have not taken it out yet. We need a couple strong rains to getthose cleaned off. Man, glad you are ok!!! :) When you get your next Viper make sure the tires are new (or close). Good luck with the claim. Keep us up to date. Take good care now.

Not sure, I just got the car two weeks ago, I didn't look at code date, but they were soft an worked decent. Tires I want are on back order.

I thought you'd had the Viper since January and put 2,500 miles on the odo?

Gotta be careful with these cars.... two weeks behind the wheel... if you're not familiar with driving high performance vehicles you need to be extra respectful of the HP and torque..........

Glad you are OK... I showed my wife the pictures and she told me to sell my Gen 1 and buy a Gen 3 or 4!:omg:

Idk how I messed that post up, I got the car January first, was my daily driver, replacing Z06 Corvette. I have 650hp turbo Mustang an Pt88 turbo Camaro. But the viper drives nothing like them. So not really a comparison. When a deer runs out and you have low visibility, anything can happen.

OLD TIRES(*) and an emergency situation (and/or too much steering or too much throttle or too much bracking ...) and the **** happens (again)!

Glad you made it out of the wrack without injuries! :2tu:

(*) I was discussing another Viper to buy the last few days from a reputable seller on here and he is telling me that the original tires from 2001/2002 are good  again and again and again ... it is a shame that even reputable sellers tell BS.
A newbie will never know and run the car into the ditches :drive:sooner or later!
