no more viper (no more sports car for me)

After owning a Gen 2,3, and 5 for one year, and recently two hernia repairs, I traded the gen 5 because I could not get in and out of it without aching and even operating the clutch was becoming painful. So no more sports car for me at all. Still have the SUV, but replaced the viper with an S550. After driving sports cars on and off for 40 years, that time has come to end. Great memories, great fun......

You are getting to extreme,buy a new Porsche 991/991 Turbo S,the bench mark of all sports cars.You will be able to drive in pure comfort to the track and run 10s all day long just pushing the gas. Just had a hernia repaired that I had for years.It Sucxxx.So,while I am all better,that shifting stuff is done.I mean,I still can,but why ??????To go Slower...

As a physician I am sure that you did your due diligence and determined that it was time for the transition. Forty years of sports cars is a good run. Once the Hellcat backlog calms down (that will be awhile since there are over 5000 customer orders and only about 1200 have been produced), you might consider an automatic Challenger Hellcat as a replacement. Its ergonomics solve all of the issues you mentioned above. There is an all black one in my area and it is one neat vehicle.

At any rate, thank you for being part of the Viper community and sharing your thoughts and experiences over the years.

I understand what you are saying, my back problems have been making it harder and harder to drive a sick shift around town and getting in and out of my Viper is a bit ******* my back. You have stepped into a very nice car with that S550, I to have been thinking about a S class (S550 or S63). How you liking it? I have owned 2 CTS-v's, and currently have a 2014 normal CTS, I drove a S550 the other day and WOW it's a totally different class of car then a Cadillac.

Really sorry to hear. Guys, enjoy your cars while you still can. No sense in keeping it a garage queen for someone else to enjoy later.

On a serious side note, the S550 seems like a nice car. But go test drive a GT-R. It's easy to get in and out of, you sit up high, plenty of interior room, it's got a ***** mode that cuts the HP down and slows the shifts, it has four seats, and has a soft suspension setting on the latest models that is very docile. Plenty of guys in their 60's own one and love it. I met a guy in his 70's that has one, he drives it cross-country with his wife, no joke. When you feel like raising your blood pressure or repositioning those internal organs, launch control is there to help in 2.8 seconds.

Careful there. You are messing with your karma !! You may be technically correct; but, it can get to the point where it is not worth enduring the pain.

(I am starting to get hints of those kind of issues at a much younger age than I expected.)

I'm not ready for an automatic yet except I do enjoy driving my wife's SL550 in manual mode. Would love to see what a Viper with paddle shifters would be like.

Unfortunately that is not always true due to the stress on the knee when the clutch is pushed in. Those with osteo arthritis of the knees have good days and bad days. On a bad day, pushing the clutch in is not a pleasant experience.

Seriously though, I can see somebody having trouble getting in and out of a Viper....but if you can walk...you can shift gears.
