Not sure what to do?

The good news is after about the cost of a 2000 GTS worth if infertility treatments my wife and I (both in our mid fortys) are going to have our first baby! Before learning about this good news I was getting very close to activly searching for a Gen II RT10.

Obviously a new baby is going to have a huge impact on our lives to the extent I know I am not yet fully aware. Money is not the issue, I can assure you the baby willwant for nothing, and I will be a fully devoted father.

My wife hasn't said "no" yet, so to me this almost as good as a yes!

How does the Viper work out for those of you with little ones? Should I put the Viper on the back burner for now? Should I look for an old mopar, something with a back seat, (and a hemi) instead? Would a GTS be a better choice if I decided to make the plunge or am I being short sighted and forget the whole thing?

Well, I guess for the people who have one it is for pure enjoyment and pleasure. It is not a " family " vehicle. And I don't think a car seat would be a good idea either...lol That is unless you want your little one to get hooked early.

This would be the toy, not the main family car. We've got the usual assortment of sedans and SUV's to fill the family car need.

If you are having to ask yourself if you should or shouldn't invest in a high cost car (both up front as well as maintanence) because of the cost of having a new addition to the family, then I'd say you already know the answer.

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!

Send a PM to Chris. He (Ron - his wife is Chris) has adapted a car seat to his Viper and they enjoy it. The baby goes everywhere with them. Won't last when the child gets a little older, but for now they have a blast together!

What car are you saying is high cost maintanance cause it sure doesn't hold true for a Viper unless you are talking about a few hundred for tires a year and super gas. Besides that the Viper is not high cost as far as maintanance.

Congrats on the new family addition! My wife and I had a similar experience. Get the VIPER...you only live once. Check into the mod mentioned above regarding the car seat. I wish I'd had my Viper(with the car seat) when my son was born. Can you imagine the impact on a baby riding in a Viper? The kid will have a blast and probably grow up to be the next Michael or Michele Schumacher!

If money is no object then what's the deal? Buy it now and sell it if you have to, or buy it later and sell it if you have to.

I suspect with a little one around, one of the two is going to be neglected.

I have 3 year old and a 5 year old. The GTS works just fine for hauling them around. I agree with your assessment regarding maintenance. The GTS is NOT a needy car, leaving plenty of family time.

I recommend you get a later car, with the passenger airbag switch.

The only downside is the little ones tend to plant their feet squarely on the dash (you'll be tempted to soak their socks in Armor All).

Well, interesting position. I started with the "family" car. 69 Hemi roadrunner. seats up to 5. Now my two girls are getting older 7&12 and decided to get the not so family car. 97' GTS.. and of course keep the 69Runner.. This may not be a popular statement, but the runner is going to keep appreciating and the GTS is a ?....at least for some time. In the long run, I see the runner as a solid investment and the GTS as a toy. The GTS has been a dream car. The runner is also a blast to drive, but the down side is no AC(in FL) and the not so emission friendly smell of the exhaust. My runner is orange and many people don't know what it is--the GTS is a head turner PERIOD.

Get the Viper, if it's a toy, you will love it even more once your child grows up and can enjoy it with you!!
My son is 32 months and LOVES his Daddy's Viper!!!

Get the Viper.... we have a 1996 RT, a 1969 Mach I and a 1977 Harley... we've had them since our 6 year old was born... he loves the cars.

Like Chuck said, buy it.. and if you need to down the road you can sell.
