now HERE\'s a bad tuner experience!
... so as most of you know, I'm running NOS in my cast-piston '01 RT/10, and I'm a bit nervous about it. I've gotten all sorts of warnings about spun bearings, cast pistons shattering under the heat, piston rings coming apart, and various other horror scenarios. Right now, my car's down at APEX Motorsports getting Hennessey heads installed, which means we finally get a good look at the combustion chamber and pistons after they've been through the NOS wringer.
Soooo... at 6:00 today I get the following mail from APEX:
-----
Subj: Uh oh!!!
We took off the other cylinder head, and it looks like there's a problem
with your #7 piston, or lack thereof. Call me when you take a look at this!!

And this picture is attached:
My heart leaps into my throat! It's all true -- the NOS has killed my engine, the cast pistons couldn't take the strain, I'm looking at a $7,000+ repair bill on top of everything, oh no!!!
I'm frantically going over everything in my mind, thinking "but wait, it was running OK when I dropped it off, but maybe the piston was cracked and came apart when I pulled the heads, but those don't look like the pictures I've seen of the cast pistons, but but but" when I get the follow-on email at 6:03:
-----
Subj: More pictures
Did you like that last picture? Hahaha! I thought that would get your
attention. That was from a Mustang with a truck 351 block and a
Vortech. 506rwhp with marginal parts in the short block produces that sort
of problem...
Attached are the photos I've taken so far.
-----
and a bunch of pictures of my quite-normal-looking pistons and combustion chamber (attached in a separate thread).
Bill... I will find a way to pay you back for this. You scared the sh*t out of me for three minutes. Congrats
