I just got my 3:55 rear from JonB, took my car to dealer this morning and they said to reconsider my choice, 3:55 is just not a good one. they said 4:10 is much more suited for vipers or at the least, a 3:73. well, now im second guessing my decision and went home to ponder (hmmm too early for a beer?). This dealer does do much viper work and does sell quite a few for the size of our town (Ive seen about twenty different vipers locally, from stock to 650 venoms and we only have 150k people here)input would be appreciated before i go back tommorrow and commit to installing the 3:55 (i rescheduled for 8am tommorrow) they have no vested interest in what im installing so i can logically surmise they are not recomending a 4:10 or 3:73 for financial gain. so either they dont know what theyre talking about or theyre right? which one, i dont know....

4.10s and that much toque? Jeeze... they just want to sell you a new set of tires in a few weeks

Nah, I dunno why. I would stick w/ the 3.55's. Seem to be a good all around gear. 4.10s would be pretty steep.

In the years I've been observing this board, and enjoying all our Drag and Roadcourse events, I've NEVER heard of any of our Viper guys using a 4:10, and even 3:73's are going to have you shiftin' allot more often than you'd want (or need).

Any feedback from 3:73 users?

oK one point it seems i need to clarify, my viper is a daily driver, i dont go to the track (yet) and i drive it as much as possible, for example; june 15-29 im driving across country and back, 6000 miles. my current HP, ive no idea, my aftermarket mods are corsa catback, tubes and filters, the rest are audio and cosmetic.

rdustman,

I would say you can't go wrong with 450RWHP or below and 3.55's or 3.73's.

3.73's are just a little shorter, not all that much. I have the 3.73, and love them. Now 4.10's, wow. I would think traction would be a BIG problem. I would say with Gen II cars, 3.73's is the limit, unless you like to burn rubber through first gear...

Do the mod, you'll love it!! Why not try the 3.73's? I need more people to verify the fun factor of this gear. 4'th gear is capable of 125 MPH, so you don't have to shift into 5'th racing the 1/4 mile. Good luck.

** Buy the way, stock Gen II 3.07 Viper's SHOULD be in 4'th gear when finishing the 1/4 mile.

Pls post how the install went (hours labour/any problems), etc. Would like to swap gears also, but debating on just getting the gears or swapping out the entire diff which is easier (and easier to go back to stock), but more $$$. Get the 345/35's or 345/30(if you can find them). 345/45's are way too tall and you will lose all the multiplication benefits of the lower gear.

I've ran 4:10's before on a 600 Horse Power Supercharged Mustang. I had no problems. You will go through gears so darn fast. I loved them on my Mustang. 1st gear through 3rd were the fun gears. You really get a jump off the start, and if you race some one from a second gear roll you will smoke there *** . They are not good for high speed runs though. I never ran my mustang above the 130 140 MPH mark when racing. I don't know how the Gears would be on a high torque car like the Viper. My Mustang did have a fare amount of Torque, I think the torque #'s where around 50O Pounds. The only thing that would worry me about the Viper is just the fact that it is so easy to loose the back end. If you have the 4:10's it might magnify that.

Loose the back end??!! Sounds like that part is up to the driver, so maybe you should stay with the 3.07's
