Oil Catch Can Questions

I am ready to order/install a JAZ mini breather catch can on my Roe S/Cd GTS..the tank has 2 fittings on it, I know the PCV hose goes to 1 side of it, but what is the 2nd fitting used for?? Is there a need to add a Roe valve cover breather as well to reduce crankcase pressure?? Thanks...AL...

Your catch can has a breather on top, no?
So no need to add a valve cover breather.

My can only has one fitting. I presume yours may have 2 fittings to allow you to have separate attachments from each valve cover?

The stock PCV tubing connects the 2 valve cover tubes into one so if you use this tubing you only need one fitting.
I would guess you could just block off the other hole in this case.


PS... I'm not sure how the SC changes all this

On my puke tank (from the man, Heffner) has one hose going to it...and a little air filter on top.

As you can see, this vents any gasses/fumes/etc right near the air intake for the heater/AC. It has been reported by some, and I can confirm, that at times the smell CAN be sucked into the cabin. I recently removed that filter and installed a breather type cap with a hose going down. Now, in theory, it should work as designed (the puke tank portion) and the smells should get vented down under the air intake. I have not tested to confirm yet....but I will soon!

Are you using the Jaz can that has a petcock on the bottom and holds about half a pint? I think I had the same one and got rid of it. It didn't catch all the oil vapors and got full too quick. I have the same one that Tony does and it's MUCH better than the Jaz can.

Yep, thats the one I was thinking about...They make a 1 Qt version as well...Are there any other good brands out there???? thanks...AL...

The confusion rests in the fact that there are two separate areas of concern:

1. The front of the oem valve covers are connected into the air box via a tee and subsequent tubing. The partial vacuum will take fumes and oil back into tubes. This is why there are two tubes on the catch can - one from the covers and one to the airbox. You don't need have to use both, you can deadend the connection into the catch can.

2. On the oem intake there are two tubes in the front that tie into the pcv valve. This connection is at its worse under high engine braking, where the vacuum is high and the rpms are high, it takes a lot of oil and sends it directly back into the intake, this catch should absolutely be a deadend.

All this applies to a Gen 2, the Gen 1 has the pcv valve on the cover and then it is tied back into the front of the intake.

Talking about Gen1, where exactly would you install the catch can?
Between the PCV valve and the front of the intake or/and(?) between the left valve cover and airbox?
Better one or two fitting for that setup?

Where did you get your "catch can"?

Inline air compressor filter, works great no problems, I accumulate about a half inch every 500 miles or so.

FLX109 - can you give us more details? I presume heavy duty hose attached to the air compressor filter (CH?). Do you tap into line after the two 2 tubes (from manifold) join together?

All I did is bought a small air compressor filter & housing for I believe $10.00 that has air compressor hose fittings that are the same size diameter or close to the stock hose coming from the engine that normally went straight to the cars intake and clamped that end to the filter housing In (no cutting of stock hose) and clamped a similar oil breather hose to the out of the filter housing and ran it to the intake tube ( you can see it rap down and around and connect to the drivers side intake tube). This air compressor filter housing has a In and out also, I didn't want it to be able to back up or be sucked back somehow, It works great it doesn't let any oil pass through to the intake just air, everything accumulates in the jar with no fumes.

FLX109 Thanks! Even though I have the oil catch can, this sounds much simpler/cheaper and prob just as effective
