Oil Change before winter storage - quick question

I'm putting on a new exhaust tomorrow. It is getting cold here in Montreal (it actually snowed a few miles North of here this weekend). I will have to store the car either next weekend or the weekend after. Of course, I want to drive it as much as possible with the new exhaust with the little time I have left before I am forced to store it. Yes...I should probably wait....but I don't wanna...so there!!

Question - I was thinking I would change the oil while I have the car on a lift as I prepare for storage. Can I drive the car for a week or two with the new oil and then store it or is it preferred to change the oil and store right away? ( I don't own the lift so i would have to go back a second time to do the oil change at a later date - thought I could get it all done in one shot).

It isnt going to do any damage if the oil was fresh, had 10 miles on it or 1000 miles on it when stored. Just be sure to start the car until warmed up several times during the storage period. And I assume you know the value of a tender pays for itself very quickly for these cars.

I think you will be fine as long as it is a descent ride and burns off all the moisture out of the exhaust and oil before shutting it down. I usually try to drive it throughout the winter but then I am not in Canada, Thank God.

A week or so shouldn't really cause any problem. The many reason to change the oil before storage is the acid's that get in the oil. The acid's will attack your bearings. And once mine is tucked away for winter I never start it until spring.

If you store it, I would not start it again until you are ready to take it for a good ride. Starting the engine for 10-20 minutes every few weeks is harmful to it. Just let it sit until you are ready to take it out of storage and take it for a good ride. As for the oil, driving it a few times before putting it away after you change the oil should not hurt it. That is what I do and I have not had any trouble. I would get a battery tender though, they are great and only cost about $30 for a decent one. When you store the car, do not alarm it, if the car is alarmed it seems to draw down the battery. I alarmed mine all last winter when I stored it, when I went to take it out of storage the battery was dead.

Personally, I always do the opposite.. I change the oil every single year(regardless of miles) at the start of the season, usually around April.. But thats just me... My oil MIGHT get 500-1000 miles on it, before its changed again.. So its not like your storing it with dirty oil... The oil I take out of the car, is usually still honey brown...
