Definately prefer the car with a fresh rebuild(new) motor.New is a good thing.If you get lucky maybe they will rebuild the entire drivetrain for you.Nothing wrong with new. Bruce

MY2K very early motors have a known problem with out-of-spec oil consumption, as has been covered her in gory detaiil since Nov-2000. Use the 'search' program above to look for terms like:
Arrow rebuild Powdered
and see what pops. The MDH number on your door is a critical piece of info. It needs to be a very early 2000 (Oct-Nov) to be affected.
Getting a re-built motor under warrantee is a GOOD thing. Not many here are likely to agree that you have sufferd a devaluation....many believe you are better off with a rebuild.
Too darn bad for your GRIEF however......we sympathise. WHICH VCA ARE YOU INVOLVED IN ? Your regional pres can be of help, and maybe me too. If you want the long version, e-me for my phone number. Ill help you get fixed....but not interested in a debate....... JonB

I think that most on this site know about the deal with replacement engines, and we would probably not frown on it.
I DO think that if they replace the whole engine (and you no longer have matching numbers) then it would hurt the value. If I was not 'clued in' to the deal with replacing Viper engines, I would be wary of buying a car with such low miles with a replaced engine - I'd think it was beat on or something. If they keep your "numbers" intact, then it probably doesn't hurt the value at all.
I turned down a 1997 Corvette for the exact same reason. They said the engine was dead right off the truck, but they were selling it for $2000 less than comparable 1997 Vettes and it was a big problem for me. I know the guy that bought the car and he got about $5000 off the sticker price.

is this a known problem about burning moter oil?? I have a 2000 blk gts, Now im kinda nervous about this, the car has 800 miles..Can someone fill me in on this problem??

Don't forget to tell the collector of those rare HEMI cars with replacement blocks that those HEMI cars are worth lots less. The HEMI cars are going up up up even with warranty blocks. It's all in the VIN #

Get the rebuild and love the car. There are several on this board who lived through it and are happy now. Did you buy the car just to turn around and sell it? Probably not. Anyway, you can't sell it now with the oil consumption problem unless your willing to lose more than you would after the rebuild.
Venomuus, you probably have a later build date like me (9/00) so you shouldn't worry. Partner, you may be racing around in your new rebuild when the rest of us discover some other problem (heaven forbid!!) So let the warranty take care of it and go on!
Also I'm curious, what kind of break-in did you follow (if any)

Sure, for SOME cars it probably would not make much of a difference, but overall a non-matching number engine WILL decrease the value of the car.
HOWEVER, this guy is talking about a rebuild by Arrow, and I don't think that would affect the value. Get documentation that it was fixed under warranty because of defective cylinder liners, and I think you would be Ok. Actually, given that it has an essentially new engine at 9000 miles, it might be worth a little more than other Vipers with similar miles.

I've been hanging around the Viper BBS since the old C&D days and I've not heard ANYONE who was dissatisfied with a warranty rebuild. Dodge basically WON'T LET ANYONE open a motor up past the heads and retain warranty coverage.
Take it or leave it.

Partner, You have all the advice you need here, would suggest that you chill out a little though. If you can't afford the car then sell it, if you can then let the reps do their work for you. Yelling lemon all over the place will get you something, it's called grief and frustration, I have been through this with my customers many times, as we sell 7500 new vehicles each year.
Ask your dealer and rep to work "with you". If it is a fight you are looking for, hey that works too, but you get less and it takes longer. No debate please.

My 97 GTS Had a rebuild and it ran stronger that the stock engine. I sold the car and informed the buyer of the cars history and did not discount the price one penny! Please do not "Cry Wolf"!

ps....your used 2000 RT will have the same value the day it returns from Arrow as it did the day you drove it off the showroom floor, less NORMAL depreciation only. Want to sell it? Place in classifieds at a fair price and see what shakes.

Cars break down..... that is why they come with warranties. I am truly sympathetic to your situation and wish you the best, however I think you might be over reacting a bit. I hope you did not buy this car as an investment!
Furthermore, if you want to sell it (before the rebuild or after), let us know how much you want for it and we'll get the word out. And like JonB said, put it in the viper club classifieds (Easily the largest selection of vipers).
