Saw many oil drops where my new 2008 is parked...:dunno:

Could be the oil filter but I am not sure without a lift.

I have already an appointment for an oil change on Thursday scheduled, but the drive is +100 miles...

I as well have a leak from my 08.This past fall I had it checked out before putting it away.I was told it was my rear crank seal but can not confirm this as the dealership I had to use was not up to *****.It initially presented as a symmetrical pattern near where the oil pan is and got worse after my first oil change. It now has blown back covering a fair portion of my undercarrage, what a mess.
A Viper tech from Ontario pm'ed me to say he had to replace a couple oil pan gaskets recently and this was most likely the problem.Over the winter I started the car a couple times, even drove it around a bit underground. The oil level has not dropped since last fall.
My car is about 1500 miles from home, and I plan in 10 days to get my car and drive it back to Vancouver where I am now living.I have more confidence in the deaerships out here where they have actually seen a Viper. My only fear is if it actually turns out to be the crank seal will I make it home.

My wife noticed somthing on the floor after I went for a ride. I wiped it up and it was orange. After looking around, I found the overflow hose comes out inside of the right front wheel. Had me scared to death, but after I found out what is was, no big deal. No oil leaks.

Sometimes the oil cooler fittings attaching to the block have oil on them from assembly and can drip. They even occasionally need to be replaced if it does not stop, not common though. The other could very well be the top of the oil filter has oil on it and as it gets blown back it appears it could be something worse than it is. Clean everything off and run the car till warm. Re inspect then you will know for sure the source.

OR... just take a road trip to Nebraska and see us.:headbang::rolaugh:

My 05 required new lines to the cooler in order to stop an oil leak. No leak since.

I wish I would be that close to Woodhouse! Will check where the oil is coming from.
Too much for "from assembly"...:crazy2:

Will put the car on a lift at a body shop close to my place tomorrow morning first - before I do the drive +100 miles to the dealership for the oil change and filter change!

THX guys! :2tu:

It is the crank seal in the front. What a mess!!!

From the factory.

Luckily, I took it to a local body shop and on a lift in the morning.

Could not drive the car any further.

Had to call for a flatbed! Car is now at my dealership 270 miles away - took me all day long to sort this out...bummer!

Could the PCV valve involved? As soon as the engine is running, oil was spilling through the crank seal...too much pressure inside??? HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When we had the car on the lift we cleaned the underside, the front of the engine etc. to be able to see where it is leaking. That's why you dont see much oil in the picture above.
We ran the engine for one minute or so and lots of oil was going through the front sealing of the crank!

those are the factory stripes, just turn the car upside down in front of a jet engine or drive it upside down with a wing and the oil will run over the car and provide the slickest rally stripes yet:) you'll need the aero package to keep the down (up) forces and around 190 mph to drive upside down though. :)

Front crank shaft seal was not in the position where it should have been!

2 mm shifted to the front!

Will pick up the car today evening.

O.K. - car repaired & home.

Seal was way out and in contact with the damper...no wonder that seal was damaged and leaking

Oh, btw, the underside of the car was COVERED with oil. What a mess. Had to be cleaned also.
I am lucky that the oil was not on the tires and/or brakes yet.

Sorry I missed this thread earlier. Exact same issue on a buddies car here. When the dealer was PDIing the car they noticed excessive oil. After s short drive they saw alot of oil all over. Turned out to be the same issue you had. Crank seal.

Someone is really slackin at CAAP!;)
