Oil Pressure

I have a question regarding oil pressure in a 99 viper. I noticed the other day that when driving, my oil pressure was a little above the half way mark on the gauge, but when stopped at a light the pressure dropped to either a little under the half way mark or right at the half way mark. Is this normal for Vipers? I had a 99 mustang cobra previously and the pressure stayed the same regardless of if you were moving or sitting still.

Thanks,

Now this is coming from someone that drives his car every other leap year, but when I start the car it is at 70psi. I believe when it is warm and at an idle it falls to 50-55 psi at its lowest and when I'm moving and its warm it is at appx 60psi. So yeah, the pressure definitely fluctuates.

Okay, that is what I thought but just wanted to be sure. When I was test driving it, I thought I noticed that it tended to stay in one place, so when I saw it move the other day when I was stopped it concerned me somewhat. Anyone elses oil pressure fluctuate when stopped compared to when driving?

The gauge that is in the Mustang is kinda like a dummy gauge it olny tells you if there is pressure or not. The Viper gauge is a true reading.

Yes, but slow in response and highly damped.

A true mechanical gauge will move like a tach needle. The Viper's is only a little better than the apparently worthless Mustang unit. Intentional to avoid "my oil pressure is 2 lbs less than his" complaints.
