I finally got to put some miles on my new coupe this weekend and I now understand why I love this car so much. After many Vettes, Porsche and a Ford (mistake)...I finally understand why the Viper is a Love/Hate decision.

This car feels like a second skin to me now. NONE of my Vettes ever felt this way...the Porsche was close but not like the Viper. With the Vette you always have that Vette engineer riding shotgun with you. You never really DIRECTLY connect to the Vette, you are there for the ride...fun though it may be. With the Viper, it's you and the car...no disconnect. I love it!!!

People who are looking for a nice RIDE will not like the Viper. This car is made to be DRIVEN. No wonder there are so many Vipers for sale with less than 3k miles. If you bought this car just to look good, you would get tired of it about 2500 miles. If you bought this car to DRIVE it, you will never stop smiling...I haven't :2tu:

great post!

I just passed 35K miles, it's completely true-once you get more seat time you really see how the Viper is a real 'driver's' car

Yes the viper is a Driver Car. There is nothing like it,not even a Ferrari. I have owned them all and this is as close to a race car as it gets for the money. Plus it does not break every time you take it out and you can drive it anywhere. Truth is the viper has better brakes than any of my race cars!

RMBSRT hit the nail on the head. It's not till you really push the car that you fully appreciate what it's all about and that's what makes its quirks worth putting up with. One of two things happen to the new owners who quickly dump the car. Either they baby the car and so don't get to experience the rush that makes it so worth having, or they jump all over it without the kind of driving experience necessary to handle a car like this and scare the crap out of themselves.

The Viper has huge visual appeal and a reputation that many people find attractive. Kind of like a supermodel. She looks hot as hell, but she can be a real b**ch too, lol. Just like being married to a supermodel, for some people, the fantasy of owning a Viper is better than the reality.

Racer, I see you're in Branford. I'm in Danbury or as I call it Dumbury! I've owned six Vipers including a Comp Coupe (which doesn't count) so needless to say I love Vipers for they exude a very well respected presence. I also agree with your "for the money" comment. I am lucky enough to also own a Ford GT and like all of us car guys we should share our experiences and thoughts. If you haven't already then drive a GT if you get the chance. It will absolutely blow your socks off. The most impressive thing about the GT is it's mannerisms, very suttle and refined yet explosive beyond belief. My good friend who has also owned a few Vipers drove my GT and his quote which I think is dead on was "the Viper is a sledgehammer and the GT is a scalpel". If you have driven both you'll know what he means. Also, the other really great thing about the GT is that it takes very little money and effort to kick the HP and handling way beyond the world super car class that it already possesses. Don't forget guys I love Vipers, I just wanted to share my thoughts respectfully...Dan

I agree!!! I drive my Viper everyday, and when I leave to go home after work all I want to do is head for the track. The car gets inside your head.

This car is way more sensory than the Z.

Hi Dan,

I agree with you. The scary thing about the Ford Gt is all we keep hearing about the front end breaking. I love the car and almost bought one instead of the Viper when I sold my Ferrari. I still would love to own one but am not willing to be price gouged by the Ford dealers and their markup. Hell if you are in the area sometime look me up and take me for a ride!

It would be my pleasure! Thanks for the kind words and don't believe that about the front suspension, that was on the first 300 or so and they rectified the problem. Some of the cars had suspension arm fractures but it was rectified quickly and they are not gouging anymore. I'm hearing you can get them way under list...Dan

That's certainly been my experience - now the car feels like wearing well-broken in comfortable jeans. The Ford GT I'd love to be able to get my hands on one - perhaps a used one in a few years. No way would I trade my Viper in for one but it would be a great stablemate!

Before I bought my Viper over the summer, I was on the waiting list for a Mustang GT500. My local dealer, Sheehy Ford(loser) in Maryland wanted $95,000 for it- thats a $50,000 adjustment, and was puting $80,000 market adjustment on the GT40's. That brought them up to $250,000. They had two on the showroom floor. They will probably rot there unless they find some reality. Jim

The word is out on the Ford Mustang GT500 and they are not moving. The car is too heavy, even for 500hp. The motor trend test with the Z06, Viper and GT500 was a joke.
