You have to make it sound like you're not afraid, but have learned the consequences. I usually say "did you see that cop back there?" or "last time I raced, I spent a week in jail in a small Texas town". The last thing you wanna hear is PUUUUUSSSYY! DO NOT tell them they aren't worthy (we KNOW they aren't) that'll just piss'em off.

I tell them "I have a goldfish in a bowl in the passenger seat and don't want to spill." Seems to work.

Say "Are you going to pay for my gas?" or "I only run for $1000, show me the $" LOL!

The "Dude, I spent a night in jail last week" line works really well around here.

I won't run any of the cars with my wife in the car for example (or in traffic by myself either)...and that's a great way to difuse it as well.

Most people around here are (rightly) paranoid due to the zero tolerance this area is becoming well known for...

Or, you can say "Sure!" and when they nail it, let em bury it and take off...when (if) they slow up and you catch them, say "[******]! That thing's a lot faster than I thought it was going to be!" with a big grin.

Most people are pretty cool - if they're not and they give you $hit, you probably don't want to be running them in the first place anyhow...they might not know when to give up (or when they've lost).

It happened to me few months ago, I stopped at the traffic light, a Honda Accord pulled next to and me asked me if I wanted to race.I said yes then the traffic light turned green, he nailed it, guess what I let him go then I made a turn. I think there is a lot of people out there want to see how fast the Viper can take off. :usa:

Years ago I used to pull out a handful of tickets and look discusted. Maybe I should start doing that again. I won't even have to find the old tickets.

You could also do a safe half throttle pull, and tell the other driver that it was only half throttle. That should suffice if conditions are right. I did that on my second drive (wasn't racing anyone though).

I carry my badge and id, and only break it out for the really obnoxious horse's a$$, then I just flip it open the id falls down exposing the badge, their jaw usually drops. I say sorry, that would be against the law wouldn't it! They usually turn off at the next street.

I always say, "Sure, let me turn my car around!" (like I'm going to race them backwards). It gets a good laugh every time.
