JonB,

You are getting over filled with viper knowledge and its starting to spill over, the K&N box wont fit any viper past 98 without modification.

Thanks Tony...so what I'm taking away is that the stock box with hi-flow filters and smooth tubes is probably best for least expense. Adding the Vipair cold air piece should help some. After that, seems to be more about looks than performance.

Right now, trying to focus on getting most peformance for each thing I do. I really like the open air-box for looks, especially the one you sent the link to.

Thanks again.

Funny Dave!

So, is there any way to get HP gains comparison from stock for each?

- Stock air-box, smooth tubes, hi-flow filters - looks like +10hp
.....with added Vipair -Vipair's site claims additional +10hp
So, can I estimate approx +20hp gain with 1) smooth tubes, 2) S&B hi-flow filters, 3) Vipair???

- K&N Open air-box with cone filters
- JMB Performance open air-box, with/without cold air piece
- Full Vipair system - air-box and cold air piece (cannot find the Vipair air-box anywhere, Vipair site, Parts Rack?)
I'm not sure this info exists, but would certainly help me and maybe others in making the decision.

For "bling" alone, the JMB Performance box is the one option that looks the best - powder coated to match car color.:2tu:

With limited budget for mods, looking for performance increases as opposed to strictly looks.

Thanks.

Peter, here's my opinion....if you want mods that are going to net you power gains you can actually feel and measure save your money. Not saying the Vipair, Smooth Tubes and Filters won't contribute to power but IMO it's minuscule on a 450hp engine. That said, I have the said mods :D and I do think they help but not as much as say a SuperCharger, Ported heads, cam, exhaust, etc. My advice is if you want mods you can really feel save your money and look into headers, catback, etc. Because by the time you nickle and dime all of these "little" mods...a few years down the road you'll realize you spent enough on these little mods that could've paid for something like...a super charger, or exhaust, headers...things that do add some OOOMPH. Don't ask me how I know this. :D It's an addiction.

I think in your case, you'll be fine with the Vipair, Vipair Airbox (or JMB) to compliment the gorgeous paint on your car. Personally, I love the CF airbox as I think its more functional being enclosed and that CF would look sharp on a beautiful Viper such as yours. Don't expect a seat of the pants feel in power but I'd imagine lower air inlet temps and snappier throttle response. Either way, you can't lose just don't get your hopes up on significant power gains.

Explaining Viper things to you

My opinion I've stated many times on the Vipair is, that it's a dynamic part requiring air movement along the car for it to provide a hp gain. A static dyno pull at 0 mph IMO will not see any improvement. Put that dyno in a wind tunnel at 150 mph? Well, um, that's why I bought mine. I believe in it.

Also, per the recently departed Big Brake Dave, the Roe fascia kit is required to see the maximum gains from the Vipair. I have that too. A believer in both.

Tony, Dave, and the others...thanks.

Tony, certainly not expecting major changes, but trying to maximize expenditures. Now that I "may" have broken one of the mounts for the air box clip, I'm looking at options for replacement rather than just looking for another OEM box.

I would love to add a SC, cams, roller rockers, etc....just not in the "household budget"...possibly (way) down the line. I do expect to do a catback exhaust change, probably corsa (not sure yet).

With the economy being as it is, for us here at least, major mods to the Viper are on hold...as are many of the changes to my house.:nono:

Right now, more like "playing" than modifying.:eater:

But again, thanks to all...great dialogue!
