I got a feeling there will be allot of gen 5 vipers sitting on lots for a LONG time you will be able to have your pic.

Yes but the OP wanted strykr red. I don't think they will be sitting anywhere... but who knows, you could be right.

i mean, i get who you know is how the world works - anyone in any line of business gets that. but, it is a bit of a sour pill when there is something that has this much emotion for some people attached to it.

This. We a going to see a lot of "brand new" 50-250mi vipers with 20,000$ markups sit for months and months that have been joyriden and weekend "borrowed" by the dealer owner. Meanwhile dealers like Tomball and Woodhuse will be burning through inventory because they will sell 2-5 total mile cars at msrp.

A lot of these problems could be solved if the warranty crossed the border with the car. Would open up the competition and really help the Viper buyers in Canada. Sorry for what is happening to you guys and gals.

Boy, Stryker Red is cursed isn't it? SRT is spending 3 times as much to do it as they should and they still can't get it done. Miraculously they sell some and drop the ball...

Everything leading up to this car's release is proving they should've waited until 2014..

Sorry to hear that. This bites but that is how the world works. It can't hurt to give a call to Ralph directly and pass on your disappointment.

Just a thought, in a very frustrating situation, but this is a company that not so many years ago would not even offer something this special , especially considering the difficulty with this showcar paint. I have been to Prefix and they are doing their best to perfect the process which takes three times as long to paint as a standard color. Rumors are they may be able to do a few more than the 25-30 they initially projected. I do know that the cars were allocated to Dealers and orders were not an indication one would ever get a car. I know we have a tremendous number of our past customers we can not get Stryker Red Snakes for, and am sure this is the case across the US and Canada.

Before the conspiracy theories take over, I could spend a paragraph listing excuses I heard from consumers and Dealers about why they could not get a Stryker Red or that SRT cheated them - not the case at all they simply had no allocation. The rational and logical issue is that once SRT took the brave move ( and of course many will now say foolish ) to do an expensive, labor intensive paint option, they opened the door for disappointment. They also did not anticipate the tremendous demand , any more than anyone else could guess. With a build of one car per week, one has to wonder how anyone could expect them to meet everyone's desire, but knowing the cost would be very high for said option, they figured the take would be fairly light. As it is now, Prefix and SRT are doing their best to figure a way to increase production, but the concern is that the first ones meet a very high quality standard.

So in summation, as hard as it is, let's be thankful the new SRT is willing to do special items like this as it can only increase in the future. Also , know that all are trying to figure a way to increase production of this color , but not at the expense of diluting a very unique process. The paint quality and Prefix's standard of excellence is going to surprise alot of Viper owners, as I have never seen paint of this quality on Vipers past -- on all colors available.

Plenty of cars have high class paint jobs without all these issues. This is a car manufacturer, paint is not a new thing in the car business and while yes this particular paint may be labor intensive they are not the first company to do this type of work or utilize a labor intensive paint job. I could care less about the color so my opinion is unbiased however I can't stand excuses for everything.

I agree with a lot of what you said, Bill, but given the recent relative strength of the Canadian economy compared to the U.S. economy, and how well Chrysler Canada has done relative to the parent corp and the rest of the auto brands within Canada, one would expect a better allocation of Gen Vs to Canada.

Price parity is a good thing between the US and Canadian models, but shouldn't that mean that Canadians should be allowed to bring US cars up without voiding the warranty? After all, isn't Chrysler Canada a wholly owned subsidiary of Chrysler USA? Canadian dealers may cry foul but again, that allocation should have been better thought out well before the Gen V even hit production...

Not necessarily blaming Ralph for this but who the heck is running Chrysler Canada or SRT Canada (does this even exist?), or is there a tug of war between SRT group and Chrysler Canada?

I am just upset order could go in the system the be rejected. I will still buy a Viper may not be till 2015 though. Unless they come up with a colour combo I like. No launch edition , not Styker red. It is a sign to wait

Sure , King Snake , but they are usually metal cars, with an electrostatic dipping process and not one where panels are painted on a specially designed buck. I do hope all of the Club members who eventually get to go to the Plant are rewarded with a trip over to Prefix. Those that saw the paint processes of the past will be super pleased with the level of expertise and the system set up by Prefix, but it is still one done for a hand built car and it can be hard to visualize without seeing and contemplating the detail and special work being done on this carbon fiber beauty.

One has to remember that while one Stryker Red is being painted , three other Vipers could be done. Taking that as a business model, one needs to build the meat of the production line first and not at the expense of a time consuming model. This is why it amazes me they are changing the philosphy of old and trying to figure how to do more specialized work for those wanting the new Viper. There will be more amazing options unfolding in the years to come. We as humans want it all now, but it can only be done at a specified pace , especially since it is a new, bold step for SRT - but one, we as consumers , asked for.

Dodge is not the first company to paint a carbon fiber beauty is what I am referring to. I'm aware the process is timely, I'm aware their business model is not the greatest by offering an option that takes the time of 3 vehicles. I am also aware that if I go to a company that is taking pre-orders and throw down a deposit on something I expect the product to get delivered and not cancelled because the CEO's buddies get head of the line privileges. To eache's own but I know if I owned a business it would not operate in that fashion. Build the time demanding ones last, I get that, but cancelling orders and still giving your buddies dibs, I don't get that.

I would politely suggest you withhold your perception about the paint and the process until you get the chance to visit Prefix - which I am sure you will get to during one of the group tours. To suggest the CEO, or a CEO , or someone else did or didn't get the vehicles in Canada would be suggesting we believe everything we hear. The issue at hand is one where an order was supposedly cancelled , but if the Dealer involved did not have an allocation for said car it would not have gone through anyway. There were many orders Nationwide in the US that Dealers wanted to order a Stryker Red, but they did not have allocation for it , so ordering never held any sway. I think continuing to swim in innuendo is fruitless and considering the fact that Mike has had quite a few Vipers, I would suggest he continues to pursue with his Dealer ( especially after finding out if he had any of the allocations initially ) the prospect of getting one of the rumored extra few cars they are trying to do in Stryker Red. If the Dealer was not getting one initially, and he sells a reasonable number of Vipers, he would be in good stead to plead his case as well as Mike's. I do not see any advantage going down a road one doesn't really know is factual, while there still might be a possibility of a few more machines being done.

Logically one can not always build everything one wants, as time is a commodity that can not be expanded , and a Plant building a hand built car will always have to build for the majority , and not succumb to delay for the minority. There has never been a better group than those at SRT now, and they want to please all of us, but the reality , is they can only do what is feasible. Be happy that they have more exciting options on the burner, and they are willing to take adventurous steps , but that means there will be some hiccups along the way. I applaud the new breed and the current leaders as we spent so many years being told what could not be done and now we are listened to and SRT sees no boundaries.

Chorps,

I agree with you that Canada should get more vehicles , and in fact they actually do now that Sergio, Ralph, and Reid Bigland are key individuals ( in Chrysler) with Canadian heritage . We used to get more vehicles at Woodhouse than your entire Country, on a yearly basis , but that is no longer the case. With a special model Viper done just for Canada, and with a larger allottment of some special editions going North, I can safely say ,especially Ralph, has not forgotten from whence he came. But, I understand your desire and it is only human nature to want more - we all do. Suffice it to say , Canada gets alot more Vipers than Woodhouse does now and I have a strong feeling that things will continue to get better in the coming years ---- pretty hard for the head of Dodge ( Reid) , or the CEO of Chrysler and Fiat to ignore that Chrysler Corp is the most popular brand in the Provinces!!! Sergio may be Italian, but I am sure there a very few machinehead Cannucks that don't realize he has half a maple leaf flowing through his veins.

I , like you , sure wish we could sell vehicles among two good neighbors. Warranties should follow, but I have been complaining about this for years, and have a feeling it is just protectionism from each side. Makes too much sense, so of course, why do it, ha.
