I read PalmerDodges post (viperpalmer) and decided to call Jared O'Brian at Palmer Dodge. I explained my concerns and recieved what appeared to be sincere responses. I have an appointment with him today to hopefully make things right. This was suppose to be a car of my dreams... will post results later today.

Frank -

Definitely keep us posted. They have some good cars. But like all things, buyer beware. You have a stellar Ringgold Dodge that is a known top-notch dealership just 85 miles north. If you absolutely positively have to have this car today then you know what you are getting in to. If you don't, give Mike Robbins @ Ringgold Dodge a call to at least shop and compare. Consider it your due-diligence.

Also, if you don't know what body work looks like, get someone who does to come along with you. Have them put the car up on a lift for you to inspect the underside. bring a camera and post the pictures of the car and the underside of you have questions. this forum will help guide you. And we can do that. Unless you've already made up your mind.

Good luck! We all want you to have the perfect car!!!

I met with Jared today and they are willing to exchange my car for another. I hope all goes smooth, all I want is what I paid for. If the sevice I recieved today is the new standard for Palmer, than I would highly recommend them. Will keep you posted.

frank it was great to be able to put a face to the name. I look forward to finding that perfect Viper for you. Your concerns were valid but I would like to clarify a few things. I was glad to hear it was not OUR technicians that were riding around in your car but one of another dealer where you had it serviced by where you live. With that clarified I still want to make your experience have a happy ending.

Mr. Dell,
I only hope that in good time you see we are not all bad and your opinion of us will once again become favorable. I only hope you didn't have to "beware" us to much when we gave you that free transmission when you needed it.

Palmer guys (Jody more than likely, or whomever): You have a track record. you have to work hard everyday to fix that if you genuinely care. The cars are hit or miss. Cloud that anyway you like. The last car I personally inspected y'all insisted was perfect. We later found out that was far from the truth. Was that your fault? We'll never know. But that's the thing about reputation: those with good ones don't generally lose them. Those with questionable ones are always asking for a 2nd chance.

I helped you get back on the map with the GA VCA. After the debacle of your tech wrecking a customer's car and it taking over a year for it to settle (not even sure if it ever did). How many lives do you want?

I still come out there to check out cars for people. Some have been winners. Some not-so-much. A few back (and the last time I actually told you I was coming to check one out) it looked good. later we found out it wasn't. And when the customer went to sell it there were significant costs to him as a result of not representing the car appropriately.

The transmission you provided wasn't b/c I needed it. In fact, I still have my original that was in the car at the time! I took that one and gave it to a local GA VCA member who needed it. It grinded. a lot. We we parted it and kept the input shaft which has helped me do a few viper clutches for folks in the GA VCA. I always give credit to y'all for sharing it. I didn't realize it was supposed to be a bribe to only say nice things about y'all. And I'm sorry you are bitter about it. I still appreciate it. And so do all the local members whom I help with car stuff.

For the record. I don't think you are bad. I think you have a goal: sell cars. We (the VCA members) have a goal: keep an eye out for each other. When your goal becomes our goal and your #1 goal is about the club AND selling cars rather than selling cars first, helping the VCA 2nd, then we can all talk.

Until then, we just agree to disagree. I don't think I've trashed you in any way. I've only said that one should proceed with caution. As opposed to the handful of viper sponsors on this site (are you a paid sponsor of the VCA site yet, or just an enthusiast) who dedicate themselves to being there for the VCA members. Sure it's a business, but the short-list of trust-them-just-on-their-word doesn't include y'all at the moment.

Do you want to change that or are you just going to bark a lot?

For what it is worth, I have been in there a number of times. The last time my wife and I were in to take a look at a mint 1997 they had sitting on the floor and I spoke with Jared about the car. I was impressed with Jared and his knowledge and his ability to talk to me without blowing smoke up my rear. Over all I haven't had any personal experience with them as a buyer of a viper but they have worked on several cars in my family and everything seemed kosher.

As for the 08 Blue with black stripes...sweet car, the wife and I looked at it as well.

I am just trying to get both sides of each story out. You yourself inspected the last car and gave it a clean bill of health so wouldn't it be fair to say that we didn't have malicious intent and could have simply been human like yourself and be given a small margin of error. I also remember calling and pming both you and chad to try and help do positive things for the Viper club only to you pass the buck after a few negative remarks on the lines of calling me a high paid secretary ( this being your and I first exchange) and chad not even responding till the southeast director and I had a talk. Even then I was told I wpiuld be sent an email on how to help sponsor the site. An email I never got. Even after the snide remarks and eventual blowoff I was given I still extended my hand out and told chad parts for viper members will continue to be given at 10% over cost and a new discount on labor in which I tried to get input in what would be a good rate but still haven't gotten a response.

Is this like McCain being 4 more years of Bush? I've been out of the VCA presidency for several years and now you are equating me to Chad? I told you I was too busy to get involved. Which was and is true. I can't speak for Chad. Rather than swinging blind looking for targets why don't you go be an adult and try harder to work with Chad or the VCA. In fact, here's a concept: go earn the respect rather than just asking or demanding it!

The comment about you being a highly paid secretary has some truth to it! For the rest of the readers, let me try to explain: I get a PM out of NOWHERE saying that I need to call Jody at Palmer. But it isn't from Jody! He's got my contact info (or at least he should have it). So what am I supposed to believe? I still don't know who you are since you don't sign your postings. And I don't know what your role is because you don't have a title. In fact, I have absolutely no idea who I am addressing!

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Let's be more specific. When a car comes into the shop and you flip it for sale, do you do any sort of inspection? The most recent car in question (an 06 SRT, mind you) had NO cats, no rear O2 sensors, and an aftermarket computer. So are you telling me that a buyer shouldn't have a reasonable expectation that a dealership perform _some_ form of inspection on a car?

Car dealerships get held to a higher standard. The 'well we didn't know' if it happens in your industry is often the norm. But what differentiates the Woodhouse's, the Ringgold Dodge, The Tator's Dodge (and I apologize if i'm leaving anyone out) is they way they handle it if and when it happens. For any of them, they make it right when it happens. And if it happens often, us outsiders say 'proceed with caution'. And what you've just said is 'it is not our problem'. You aren't winning any points here, whomever you are!

This has happened to me personally with your cars THREE times, BTW. since i've looked thoroughly at 10-12 cars, that's 25-30% of all the ones I've inspected! :crazy2:

If you want to continue this p*ssing contest here then I am more than happy to oblige you. Truth be told, i'd rather not. I'd prefer that you just accept the fact that up until <insert date here> you've had some questionable dealings but now you are going to go our of your way to earn the trust of the viper community. Trying to sling mud at me is a good first step towards that!

I don't want to get in a p*ssing match. I have always said I just want both sides represented. You claim you say positive things about us but I have done a search and where ever there is talk about us, you chime in with negative words. I was merely trying to show that we do do positive things for the Viper community. For someone who is so busy that you couldnt type a paragraph or so to tell me what we could do to help the Viper club, you sure have written some short novels in the last couple of days. I am not demanding respect, I just don't want to have my hand out trying to help and make things better only to continue to get it slapped over and over. I never said it is not our problem. In fact we paid for a new computer for that customer and have the old computer in our possesion now. That customer just contacted us last month wanting to do business again. He seems to be happy, why not you? I mean I am trying to give a guy a Viper to replace the one he is not happy with for free and I am still getting bashed by you. I tried to contact you and you did your best to insult me and Palmer Dodge and you say I am mudslinging? The email asked if you would give Jody or myself a call because his calls have gone unreturned. All I have asked from Day one is give me a chance to make ya'll happy and if you ask Frank, Whitten, or anyone of the dozens of other Viper customers I deal with you would see positive things. No Mudslinging, No Name Calling, No hard feelings from me. I have signed my *** and several posts. Here it is again,
Jared O'Brien

Hopefully for now we can just agree to disagree but don't be so closed minded that when someone is truely trying to make things better that you only meet it with venom (pun not intended). :)

I'll be in the market for another viper in the next few months. After reading this thread I will not be looking at Palmer Dodge. I own my own business and if a customer is not happy then they are taken care of right then. Word of mouth is powerful...

Jared -

If you look back at my commentary on Palmer and view the dates at which the comments occurred, you'll see that your reputation sucked pretty badly back then. And that you had done a piss-poor job of trying to correct the reputation. Then Jody and crew started to get better so I advocated that people give you a try. And I supported you until you screwed me again. And then I supported you anyway and you screwed me yet again! Now you come out and blast me in a public forum for expressing my opinion.

Here is today's opinion: I won't send anyone else your way. I'm changing from 'proceed with caution' to 'there are far batter choices'.

Regardless, I hope you feel better trashing a potential customer. Until today I would have bought a viper from you (and yes, I still have the same one i've had for years... it isn't like i'd bought several elsewhere). But now, I won't even consider it. And your cost+10% on parts... I'd rather give more margin to someone who supports the viper community. You can't even be bothered to be a site sponsor!

I'd also highly recommend that you consider reading this book (if you know how to read): Amazon.com: How to Win Friends & Influence People: Dale Carnegie: Books It may just save your life. Or at least your livelihood.

Good luck in car selling. So far you are -2 for this thread. And that is just the folks who speak up. For the rest of the people who will do a SEARCH and find this, please PM me for the details on some of the business practices of these guys.

Wow, sorry I wasn't following this thread as closely as I should've been, since it looks like my name got brought up out of nowhere in a not so great light. Let's clear up one thing. When I read this:

"I also remember calling and pming both you and chad to try and help do positive things for the Viper club only to you pass the buck after a few negative remarks on the lines of calling me a high paid secretary ( this being your and I first exchange) and chad not even responding till the southeast director and I had a talk."

It sounds like you called the DAL and he then "made" me respond to you. 100% inaccurate. If you are referring to the email you sent in October, yes I was slow responding. I let you know when I did respond that I had been sick, having computer problems and swamped at work. I apologized then and let you know what remaining events we had this year. The last time I remember talking to Pete (The SE DAL) was back in July when I was on the way home from Viper Days in VA. Palmer Dodge was never a topic of conversation. You have never called me.

You then say:

"Even then I was told I wpiuld be sent an email on how to help sponsor the site. An email I never got. Even after the snide remarks and eventual blowoff I was given I still extended my hand out and told chad parts for viper members will continue to be given at 10% over cost and a new discount on labor in which I tried to get input in what would be a good rate but still haven't gotten a response."

Yes, you did say you would restart the cost+10% deal on parts after I asked about it. You said you'd come to the GA-VCA meeting and talk to the club about Palmer trying to get involved with the GA-VCA again. I was going to use that opportunity to see what the member's felt was a fair deal for labor. Since I don't live in the Atlanta area, I don't know what the going rate for Viper techs are. That was the meeting you didn't show up at. No email, no phone call, just no showed. I emailed you 2 days later asking why you didn't show up, you said you were covering for someone who didn't show up for work. Thats fine, things happen. I didn't come on the Internet and complain about it. I haven't emailed you back with a labor rate because I still want to see what the Atl. area members feel is fair. When you no showed at our meeting, I didn't know if you had decided to not get involved with the Viper Club afterall, so I didn't even mention the parts and labor deals you were offering. My cell ph. # has been in every email we exchanged. If you needed an answer right then and there, you could've called. You knew I was having computer issues, so you wouldn't be receiving lightining fast replies.

I do respect the fact that you initiated contact with me to get involved with GA-VCA again after your dark days. I am still willing to work with you. I will go respond to your email right now about labor rates and let you know about our Christmas party if you'd still like to sponsor part of it.

Joseph,
Was there something about my last post you found particularly offensive? All I said is that I am found my best to make those people whom were dissatisfied satisfied and that I do not want to get into a ******* match with you. I meant that post to be a lowering of the verbal cannons and a cease fire cause that is what you seemed to be willing to do. Was it my poor attempt at viper humor? :) I am just going to right it off to pre-election stress unless you feel there really was something that offended you. Why do you continue to say I can't even be bothered to be a site sponsor. I have stated several times I have talked to the southeast director at large about it and am still waiting for a email on pricing. Also we are looking into sponsoring the Christmas party even though we are not having one of our own.

Chad,
I will talk to the powers tha be about that rate. It seems fair. I do have to admit I don't know much about viper tech rates in our area so do you think that will be well received?

If I can chime in here I would like to say Thank You to Palmer Dodge.

Due to their inept sales staff, terrible finacing wing, poor mechanics, and general lack of respect for their customers, I walked away from this dealership back in January. :bolt:

In February I purchased a better (supercharged), lower mileage car (including history) from a private seller. The car is great and I couldn't be happier!!! :drive:

So, Thank You Palmer Dodge for the poor experience, selling a car that I had a deposit on, and helping me make a better decision by NOT purchasing from you. :2tu:

I will say Palmer Dodge seems honest about repairing their reputation. They inquired to me about how they can become more involved with the GA-VCA and I asked for some special discounts for GA-VCA members. They asked me how big of discounts we wanted and I gave them my opinion on what would really save GA-VCA members some $$. They checked with the "powers that be" and got the discounts approved. They didn't try to negotiate with me at all. They gave us what we asked for without any hassle! They are also checking into helping us out with our Christmas party! I give them an A+ for effort :2tu:

Sweet Ride,
See is isnt all bad. :)..... No seriously. All I can do is apologize a thousand times for the mistakes of others in my company and work to improve the lives of the people I can. In your case in particular there is not much I can do except say sorry since you live far off and have already purchased a car. Rebuilding a reputation is not an overnight process but we, I am working at full strength to make it better. Hopefully in due time we will all look back at some of these comments and laugh. As to the Georgia Viper club members we are extending huge discounts on labor and parts so PM me or Chad for details.
Thank you,
Jared O'Brien

Jared just called to let me know that on top of the parts and labor discounts, they are also chipping in a very nice chunk of money for the GA-VCA to go out to a VERY nice Christmas dinner next month. Whether you've had problems with Palmer in the past or not, they are trying very hard to overcome these bad experiences. I applaud them for this and hope they can successfully become the Viper dealer powerhouse that they are striving to be!

Thanks for the apology. I greatly appreciate it and I am glad to see that you are making a decent effort to make amends. Hope it all works out and thanks for helping out the VCA.

Since Palmer is trying so hard to make amends, I think putting the current GA-VCA President in a 08' ACR with a Palmer Dodge tag on the back could get you some good publicity :D Just write it off as a demo for me or charge it to your advertising department :D

Well, it's going on six weeks now and it appears that the ‘06 has become short in supply.
I called Jared today and hopefully we can work out a deal on a ‘08.

I was hoping to have this over by the holidays. Well Christmas is just around the corner who knows what I may find under the tree…

Will keep you posted.

Thanks,

Frank

Frank,

I hope all turns out well with your car. I've been avoiding Palmer Dodge because of the negative experiences I hear, or read about in the Viper community. It truly sounds like they are willing to repair their reputation by working with you to make things right, and by working with Chad to provide the VCA members with special discounts and other support.:2tu:

Keep us posted,

Habu
