I have always wondered this and many others have asked so here is the question for anyone and everyone to ponder and give their input.

I have in the past upgraded my car to an excess, loved every minute of it but at the same time I, like other ran into a few hick-ups along the way.

When Dodge or any car manufacturer makes a car or any mechanical part, they specify strength targets and failure rates for each and every part, kind of like a crash zone built into the front of a car, sacrifice the front fenders etc. versus making them too strong so as to cause the crash to transfer to the passengers, .

Here is what I want to know,

What is designed to fail first and what is the torque or power required and engineered into the part to reach failure

What is the next part in the power chain and what is the failure rate of that.

I am asking this simply so that we can all plan our upgrade paths intelligently, you don't want to upgrade your weakest part which may be a $200 part to fail after a $3000 part does, when the factory designed that original part to fail first. Not only does this affect warranty but your personal pocket book as well.

Naturally race applications are exempt but even racers may really care, if they upgrade their clutch or rear end to be stronger than their transmissions failure point and then instead of the clutch or rear end failing their transmission fails, then you have an expensive weekend on your hands versus a quick clutch or rear end or half shaft change out.

This could help out in targeting upgrade paths for many.

So this is what we need:

a listing of the failure rate/strength rating of each part and the order in which they are designed to fail

This will enable all of us to determine

#1) if what we are doing in the way of upgrades will suit our purpose and
#2) avoid any potential further brakes or warranty complications that could arrise
