Well, I finally decided to bite the bullet and twin turbo my car. After a ride in a couple TT vipers, I was hooked. My Roe build was awesome, but I was ready for a change. Plus, anyone that knows me can tell you I can’t keep anything the same for too long. Since Macedo Motorsports has been treating me very well for the past 5 years I decided to discuss my goals with Larry.
My car is mainly a street car, but I wanted something I could take to occasional track days and any viper drag racing events throughout the year. I did not want a race car, and I did not want to blow out some big dyno number just to show everyone at the local car show… I wanted a car that was STRONG on the street, fun to drive, and reliable (yes, I know at these power levels things can break at any time. Been down that road before). Every turbo build I saw in Larry’s shop was different, so he worked with me on what I wanted and didn’t want as far as the build/budget. Here’s what was done:

· Garrett GT40R T-4 turbos
· Tial 46mm waste gates, Tial 50mm BOVs
· Hot parts all stainless, coated with 2000 degree coating.
· All cold parts polished aluminum.
· Custom manifolds.
· FMIC
· Forged ceramic coated dished pistons (8.5:1 CR)
· Billet rods (7/16 bolts), bearing, etc.
· ProGram billet main caps.
· LSM cam
· My heads from previous build were checked out.
· Stock crank keyed, ATI damper
· Upgraded lifter, pushrods.
· ARP fasteners and studs.
· Extrude Honed and polished stock intake.
· Baffled oil pan.
· Billet pulleys.
· McCloud Twin Disk.
· Ab’s wires.
· Woodhouse Mounts.
· 95lb/hr injectors/billet rails, etc.

On the waste gate springs (0.4 bar approx 5psi) = 650rwhp, 750rwtq.
8.5psi = 800rwhp, 900rwtq
For now, tuning was stopped at 13psi. With a very conservative 20 degrees timing and FAT 10:1 AFR, the car made 953rwhp, 1073rwtq on 93. SAE of 1.01 and 95 degrees outside.

The car was left fat for my weather conditions. When the car was delivered, it was only 45 degrees up here. We wanted to lean the car out on the road, but the cold pavement made that a little hairy. We did a little street tuning and the car runs fantastic and I couldn’t be happier with the build quality! Driving season is about over for me, so this spring we will fine tune it a little more up here and put it back on the dyno for curiosity.
Here are some pics I took the other day. I am far from a photographer and the lighting was bad, so please keep that in mind. Any of the Photoshop experts in here want to fix them up, be my guest (larger versions are in my gallery).

Nothing like a TT car! Once you've ridden in one, you're hooked. Looks like a great piece, you'll love it!

Thanks everyone!

1fast, as you know, it is a BLAST! Turbo cars definitely demand respect and attention when you are driving them.

Dan, the valve covers are the billet ones from my S/C build. I can't remember the original manufacturer. I wanted to give them a look similar to the old Hemi Mopar valve covers, so we powder coated them in black crinkle, then sanded the tops of the ridges and emblem.

Thanks! I haven't take any shots up her skirt yet, but I'll have it up in the air soon to get some. I have a few camera phone shots during fabrication.

The turbos were put in the footwell, like most, and for now I dumped the waste gates to the atmosphere. It's still not very loud like the S/C build. I'm sure at some time I will install larger turbos, and maybe then I will want to plumb them back into the exhaust stream. I don't drive it in the rain, or on dirty roads so I have the filters near the turbo inlets (not behind the facia).

MY GOSH. You know, sometimes I'm driving my basically 'stock' car and think, "Do I REALLY need another 300 hp?" and then I see your build, adding 500 or so. That's unreal.

Looks fantastic too - nice finish work. If Dodge had a "check here for twin turbo option" that's what it'd look like... or maybe not AS nice! Great job.

Hey, congrats! Welcome to the club :D Now go find some 'Busas and show them who's boss......

Did you take out the cats? I didn't see if you mentioned that. It really helps with the heat.

That's a big @ss intercooler. What size is it?

Wow that car is HOT! Congrats.....just a side comment. I think the GT500 is a VERY cool car, and THOUGHT it looked amazing, until i saw that picture parked right next to a Viper................... :headbang:

I was thinking the same thing. In that picture the Mustang looks like a pug-nose bulldog in comparison (and I like Mustangs).

Very nice build.

So does Larry make a kit, or is this just a custom job?
Also, what is behind your fog light blanks?

Thanks again EVERYONE for the compliments.

I removed the cats back when it was a Roe car. As far as the intercooler, it was custom made using two cores I believe. I can't remember the exact size, maybe Larry can chime in.

very nice everything looks sweet how did you get the fit and finnish on the hood so good that is the best looking fit on a 96 i seen in a long time
My car has always had good hood gaps etc. The facia and hood were both removed during the build, so only Larry can say if he had to do some further adjustments.
Looks great Simms! Be careful and learn the car before thrashing it.:drive:

Turbo cars can get nasty in a hurry.
Thanks Brian! As you know more than anyone, they are a whole new animal. I see a Quaife is my future, LOL. So many people shrug off 1000rwhp these days like no big deal, but until they actually DRIVE one, its a different story. You have to respect the car.

Very nice build.

So does Larry make a kit, or is this just a custom job?
Also, what is behind your fog light blanks?
He has no standard kit, every job I have seen was custom built on the car. For example, the other GTS he is doing right now will have different turbos and air to water intercoolers.

is that big dad dropped- nice snake
Yes Sir, Eibachs.

Thanks Phil!

Those are just ACR deletes I got from Tator. I always liked that look and decided to see how it would look on a B/W.

Very nicely done. I think when us non-turbo guys see such a nice implementation, our wheels start turning!! Now I want one!!
