I would definitely expect more from a company like Lingenfelter than that - if they said that they deburred everything, cleaned everything, etc., then they should have. That's why you bought the engine in the first place - because of what they advertised. What you received wasn't representative of what they promised.
If it were me, I'd be pissed, too - but honestly, that stuff probably wouldn't have caused any damage. If I were Lingenfelter, I would dyno test all of my engines so that all the crud in them gets blown out and things like this don't happen. Just think about how much crud is in the engines of our cars when they get built at the factory. I used to cut open the oil filter at the first oil change, and you wouldn't believe the stuff that comes out...
About your best bet is to work with them in good faith and try to reach a reasonable settlement. Perhaps have them cover most of the teardown and cleaning costs. If they don't like that idea, you can always take them to small claims court and get $5k back.
why after the engine had been installed in the vehicle would you have them remove it and pull the heads? ... I am not sure why they would have removed the studs? You don’t take head studs out to remove the heads that’s one advantage to using them you can just remove the nuts and save wear and tear on the block.
I hate to say it, but he has good questions there...
Just goes to show you that you can't even trust the "reputable" shops.
Well guys, if I do not get this resolved next week I will be speaking to an attorney to find out what my options are. The camshaft in the motor is USED and the journals so badly scored that AR Fab says that it can't be used. Nothing in his ad, or the invoice I recieved from them said ANYTHING about a used camshaft!!!! Also, Tim told me that Graham is their "engine" guy and he's been there for 20 years and he's the one that assembles and dis-assembles there motors. Well looking at the invoice, that's a lie. According to it, 9, yes 9, techs worked on this engine in varying degrees.
Wow... unbelievable! I wish you luck with your battle ahead! I always thought those guys were pretty good. I will be sure to steer clear of them and tell others about this mess they created. With this economy, bad word of mouth can do double the damage. Too bad they won't step up to the plate an make things right.[/QUOTE]
Well I'm still in the process of trying to make that happen. I guess we'll see.
What did the bearings look like? the cam lobes look fine.
did this engine have an intake manifold on it when you got? there are several ways that debris could have found its way into the engine.
