Thanks again everyone. I really, really appreciate it. I am not as concerned with any little issues which can be cleaned up or detailed away. Like I said, I just don't want to miss something major.
In terms of price, every '96-'97 B&W GTS on cars.com, autotrader.com or ebay.com right now with a reasonably close mileage are being "listed" at $42K - $50K or more. And there are none listed here on the VCA website classifieds right now. Of course these are "list prices" and I don't really have a solid feeling for what these are actually selling for. I know I just missed a 5K mile B&W GTS in Chicago which as "listed" at $41,800. These prices are quite a bit more than what KBB.com says, but you know how that "Viper Tax" goes sometimes.
I'm trying to think through the history that might have occurred with this car. It's had a couple owners who certainly have had different driving styles and opinions on how to care for their cars. In that respect, I am not surprised to see a little pitting in the gas cap cover or areas that need a little TLC. However, when I think about a car that has been abused or shown an extreme amount of disrespect, I would expect to see things like:
*unusual dents or dings / scratches or swirls in the paint
*tears in the seat from simply not caring how one gets in and out of the car
*scratches in the bottom of the door sill and jam from dragging feet
*major scratches or damage under the front fascia
*side sills and rear fascia covered in rock chips or tar
*bald or poorly worn original tires
To me, these are things that tell a story on how a car was cared for even with low mileage. With a car that has essentially sat in someone's garage (which is what this car has done with only 9K miles on it), there are going to be things that attention. I guess it's just a matter of whether or not we can agree on a price that takes into account me being able to remedy these little issues.
Thanks again for taking a look at the pictures and going over everything for me with a fine tooth comb!
