That hissing sound may be more like a buzzing sound and could be the fuel pump.
The fuel pump is located center, behind the seats. The pump gets louder when they become hot. Keeping fuel in the tank above 1/2 helps keep the pump cooler and may add to it's longevity. There were problems with the early pumps meeting an early demise. Hard starting could be related to the check valve in the pump. You can place a fuel gauge on the fuel rail after letting the car sit overnight to determine whether there is adequate fuel pressure at the rail to start the car WHILE you are cranking. If not, head to the dealer for a pump replacement.

Good Luck!

Is it only hard to start when cold? I've had mine start being hard to start several times and changing plugs solved the problem. However, it was always a little hard to start when this problem surfaced. By the way, my fuel pump always hisses after the car has been driven a while.

One thing I have found on my 94 is, when cold, I usually will turn the key to the on position and wait 5 seconds or so for the fuel pump to presurize the system, probably the first sign of the check valve starting to go bad. After waiting the 5 seconds, the car seems to fire right away.

I purchased my 94 RT/10 last July. I noticed that after the car had been turned off for a while that I would have to turn the ignition several times before it would crank. I posted a question here and found that it was the fuel pump losing pressure. The options where to replace the fuel pump or try turning the ignition 2 times without turning the enigine over to get the fule pressure back up and then on the third time, turn the engine over.

I decided to go with the second option. It always cranks on the first time I turn the engine over if I have turned the ignition two times to get the fuel pressure back. You can hear the fuel pump working when you click the ignition.

I haven't had any other problems with it.
