Wow I never knew that NJ was so much the foremost in jurisprudence. Points for a driving record. Wow! Loss of driving privilege for a DWI. Wow! Having a ********** cop on the bad side of the defendant. Double wow. That is a progressive state.

Now you do know that is describing most states, correct??? You really need to get out of there and see the rest of the world. It is not imaginary and you do not fall into the abyss when you approach a state boundary.

Read the many and various threads on traffic laws. Specifically the new thread on California fines. "Speeding is cheaper if you're going faster"

DWI in BC means that they will seize your car and they have the legal option of auctioning off your car here.

Check out Ontario's laws if you want to know about going to jail and losing your car as well.

Another place that's worth mentioning is Winsconson. When I got pulled over for speeding several years ago in my 98 GTS the cop/trooper informed me that the cheapest speeding fine they had was $180+. If you can't pay the COP/Trooper you get a free ride to jail and see a Judge in the morning. I got a warning, thankyou. He probaly would have taken the fine in Canadian money since I only had $95US cash?

As pointed out by GR8 ASP most cops are good ones and like every other career we have good ones and bad ones. Do your best to point out the bad ones and compliment the good ones that you actually want protecting you, because 1 day, you may need them.

Recently I wrote a letter of refence for one of our local cops. He was being touted as "Gung **" and had a LOT of complaints lodged against him. This being a small town he was getting releived early "to learn to play nice with others" I was told. Out of the 5 cops if I needed a REAL COP to shoot someone ... this guy was a great shot, a sharpshooter from the Forces and the cop I'd want to defend me. The rest of the cops may be OK and I'm sure not ********, but I'd prefer that they hand me their gun for defending myself than them doing it.

His problem is he has too much energy and really wants to bust the bad guys. He handed out more DWIs than the rest of the cops all totalled. :)

I absolutely understand what you say in your first paragraph.....however I absolutely disagree that the accident wouldn't have occurred if the cop were going 35....for the reasons I stated: Highly unlikely the flow of traffic was going 35 and the guy never looked in his mirror. My conclusion would then be that every day driving on that road exceeds 35 MPH by a margin acceptable to the cops who patrol it and that the disparity between what is normal and what the cop was going was not enough for him to appear in the blink of an eye behind the old guy. Plain and simple, the old guy didn't look in his mirror. Like I also said, maybe you also know more than what I read.

As for 'grace speed' no one would _itch more than Vipers owners if they were to be ticketed for 1 MPH over the limit....and there were no 'grace limit' at all. ....but there is a grace speed. Up here it's about 6-7 over. Downstate MI is typically higher (more so for non-Vipers). I think Tom said 9-10 over appears to work for him in his state.

Steve

I entirely understand what you are saying Steve, but I still disagree with the judgment. The accident would not have occured if the cop was doing the speed limit. Case closed.

For the record 9mph is typically the grace speed just about everywhere I've been.

I used to use the BlinderLaser jammer here in AZ - it worked like a charm! I even had a cop friend bring out a laser gun so we could test it. I sold that car though, and never put a set on the snake. I got mine at blinder.net, and I think they are still around.

I love Montana. Every time I've driven through that state I've driven between 80 and 100mph. While driving 85 in a 75 zone I got pulled over by a cop going the opposite way down the divided highway. He told me that I was going 95mph and I shoud be careful because many Deer were getting hit at that time. He didn't have a problem with 95mph (even though I was only going 85) and was just looking at the Sapphire color of my Viper GTS. Afterwards I met up with a half dozen guys from teh Wash club and Dan (from the Florida club). Dan lives in Montana and told me that the cops in Montana usually couldn't care how fast you go on the freeway.

I love Montana.

Some cops even know that although a Viper can go superfast, they also stop in half the distance of Minivans and "smallcars". Smart cops understand that supercar drivers are normally better drivers as well as safer cars.

So far, I've been stopped 5 times in my Vipers and never received a ticket. However I do get tickets in every other car I own. I average 1 ticket a year. Thank god for radar detectors!

Thank God is right !

Thank god for radar detectors!

Ted

Just one example...

I left my house for work at 5:30 this morning in darkness in my daily driver. I live on the end of a 1/3 mile rural culdesac street. The main road runs parallel with my street about 1/2 mile through the woods. My radar detector started going off at the end of my driveway. When I got to the end of my block then travelled to the main street and turned on to it and headed back in the general direction of my house on the main road by myself (like a horseshoe) I already knew that the cop was in the area. Sure enough there he was sitting in a parking lot with the lights off. As I got in range he threw the radar on only to find me doing 1 mile under the speed limit where I would normally be doing at least 15mph above. This stretch of road also just underwent a recent speed limit reduction for a 5 mile stretch so they have been cleaning up on it.

Personally I would never use a laser jammer. I am friends with a number of cops and even a few prosecutors and attorneys. Most cops that have been around a while are not going to hassle you if you don't piss them off and while being pulled over with a radar detector when they do finally get you almost always guarantees a ticket, I could see where getting caught with a jammer would probably result in them finding at least 3 things they could ticket you for.

I'm leaning towards this cordless whistler for the Viper...

Are you for real (growing up i had homes in Azizona ,NJ and Fla) so please .The wisdom you exhibit is coming from a person who calls in police traffic violations to the powers to be .NJ with the GREATEST POPULATIONS CONCENTRATION per square mile in the country is WELL KNOWN to have some of the toughest and MOST COSTLY (DOLLAR WISE FINES ECT )TRAFFIC LAWS IN THE NATION .

No NJ has by far the greatest population density .
To put in in perspective NJ has 1171 people per square mile (and is the second richest state in the country behind Maryland .A state like Michigan has 177 people per square mile.As i mentioned before our police because of the demographics and population face unique problems found no where else in the US.You can have a town like Deal,no crime rate (homes that can cost 10 million dollars )one mile from Asbury Park (made famous by Springsteen )where there is mass poverty and a VERY HIGH CRIME RATE.

Fact:
Friendship Village, Maryland has the highest population density in the US at 82,000 people per square mile.
Manhattan is next at 67,000
Gutenberg, NJ is next at 61,000

Now if you change that so it is by city boundaries we have the following (per the 1990 census):
New York city NY 23,702
East Los Angeles CA 16,819
Paterson city NJ16,691
San Francisco city CA 15,502
Jersey City city NJ 15,360
Chicago city IL 12,251
Inglewood city CA11,955
Boston city MA 11,860
Philadelphia city PA 11,734

As I said a state boundary means nothing in terms of local population density. A state is just too large an area to consider. Is NJ higher by state only because we are including up state NY. Yes. As you can see NY City is more dense than any city in NJ.

As far as your statement that NJ has the higfhest fines of anywhere in the US do you have any real facts to back that up? Or is it more of your street knowledge, which we have seen in use over and over again.

ps I dont know how the police in your home state react to your FOOLISH ANTICS of CALLING THEIR TRAFFIC CRIMES in when you see them break a law but if you have READ any of the comments made on this topic by NJ RESIDENTS the LAST THING you ever would want to do in NJ is PISS the STATE (or local )police off .

Okay 1BAD you are impossible. You stated "some of the toughest and MOST COSTLY (DOLLAR WISE FINES ECT )TRAFFIC LAWS IN THE NATION." Now you come back and say only "toughest" Well you YELLED most costly. I only asked you how you came to that conclusion. I assume it is based on garbage, as most of your assertions are.

BTW I also looked up the highest income cities on a per capita basis and you are no where to be seen. You really should check some facts before you start typing. Ignorance comes through loud and clear. Also Ashbury has a per capita income about 25% higher than Highland Park MI ($17,700), which is pretty close to Bloomfield Hills with a per capita income of $105k, the 7th highest in the nation.

You have convinced me of one thing. That is the public education system in NJ needs some Obama money. Poor to say the least. I apologize for others in NJ that have this anchor taking the state statistics down so far.

Highest-income places in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

100 highest-income places with at least 1,000 households
This is a list of the 100 richest places in the United States with at least 1,000 households. This is the most common list used for referring to the richest communities in the country, as it eliminates any places with insignificant populations. It is usually preferred over a list of places with a population of 1,000, because it means there are at least 1,000 bases for the income statistics.
Number of places by state in the top 100: California 23, New York 11, Illinois 9, Florida 9, Connecticut 6, New Jersey 6, Texas 6, Colorado 4, Michigan 4, Ohio 3, Maryland 2, Minnesota 2, Missouri 2, Pennsylvania 2, Tennessee 2, Washington 2, Arizona 1, Delaware 1, Kansas 1, Kentucky 1, Massachusetts 1, Oklahoma 1, Virginia 1. Twenty-seven states do not have any places in the top 100.

And NJ has ZERO in the top ten. Michigan has 1.

Where is the proof? Or better yet how about some proof. And in your sentence "some" does not make literal sense. Sorry but some is not a comparative.
