Posting this for a friend since he does not have internet access.

A friend of mine has a brand new SRT-10. The skip shift feature appears turned off. The car starts, idles and runs without a problem, but it is very underpowered. It is as though it has been "de-tuned," and he wondered if anyone else has experienced a similar situation.

Agent, did he buy it used? The rental companies that provide these type of cars do detune them. Could this be the cause? How about doing a carfax for previous oweners? John

He did buy it new from one of the Viper Dealers that is popular on this forum. It wasn't a rental. Thanks.

Still under warranty if brand-new...would bring it to a reputable Viper Tech and have it checked out, shouldn't feel underpowered at all...good luck to him! ~juli~

My 05 SRT-10 did not feel as fast as my 01 RT/10. I was told that the SRT-10 would get faster as the car broke in. The 01 had about 8500 miles on it. The SRT was new - I didn't really get into it until it had about 700 miles on it.

Also, First gear in a new SRT-10 did not feel as strong as my RT/10. Second gear pulled strong. While the SRT-10 did not feel sluggish, if your friend was used to driving a broken in car, that might be the difference ?

How do you really know its under powered. Did you run side by side with another Stock Viper. Will it not lite the tires up in first gear?? If you really think its a problem,go to dealer or ship the computer to DC performance and have them program it, it will definately be better after they are done with it.

No worries Craig. While Chuck hasn't turned the corner on marriage or Filipino dating, he is actually a pretty staunch defender of the SRT these days. :2tu:

And I would agree with Craig - get it to a Dyno and have them run the air fuel mix sensor as well. Then you will know what is going on.

glad to see craig posting again.. :)

i agree, go to the dyno or you're really just guessing at it. then if it is truly down on power, you can go from there.

I would get it back to the dealer and have them run a scan on the ECM. It sounds like the ECM is faulty and the car is in what is called "limp home mode"

My snake also seem's to be underpowered, I have not taken it to be dynoed as of yet. But I can tell you that the power & responsiveness is no where near my 2006 Gallardo. AT 500 HP with tons of torque one would think that the snake would be more impressive. Also the snake performs really bad on very hot days seems to lose at lease 100 HP. Once dynoed if every thing turns out to be normal, I am going to quickly have a PAXTON installed. I know that day of encountering a C-6 Z06 is nearing and I refuse to be embarrased. VIPERS FOR LIFE....:2tu:

I thought the same when I first got mine. Just didn't feel all that fast. I had it dyno'd and the numbers appeared normal for a stock Viper (482 rwhp, 481 lb ft torque). I was still dissatisfied with how it was running, so I got the DC reflash. This helped quite a bit. Throttle response was much better, car ran much smoother and cooler and was suddenly what I expected a Viper to feel like.

Strangely, I took the car in for routine service some time after doing the reflash. I swapped the stock computer back in so they wouldn't potentially mess with my DC reflash settings. When I got it back, it ran much better than it did before on the factory computer. They must have updated the software.

Seems to be a big difference in how cars came tuned from the factory.
