Proper Stripes????

I'm looking at painting white or silver stripes on my Red 98 GTS. I keep seeing comments on stripes going through the rear license plate area. I was looking at a post on License plates and see some have stripes in the plate area and some don't??? What's factory and whats aftermarket. What's correct?? Planning a stripe paint and re-clearcoat.

through the rear plate only happened at the factory on 1996 models, they supposedly removed the stripe from that area after 96 to save costs

Not sure if you already know or not, but factory stripes are 8" wide with a 4" space inbetween.

If I remember right, I read that saved them like $1000 for not painting that area. Not sure how that is possible when the entire stripe package is $3000.

I believe the stripe widths vary on the different model years. I think the widest stripes were on the b/w cars.

I thought so too, so I put them where they should have been all along...

I also painted the front cowl - definately looks better, and if your putting stripes on anyway, might as well do it right...

Thanks guys, and I agree with the stripe going through the plate. OKViper I sure like the Black/Silver. Looks great!! Ant specs on if they were different with years?? Made a note for 8" with 4' space THX V10.

2001 - 8 inches wide, 4 1/2 inches between the stripes

2002 - Stripes are 8" wide, 4-7/16" between the stripes


1996 - GTS's, the stripe width is 8 1/4", 3-15/16" between the stripes

Thanks for the info. I thought their were some differences. After looking at my 96 if I were to add black stripes to my yellow car I would do the stripes exactly like the 96 cars.

I haven't seen the specs for a 98 GTS yet. Sure didn't realize they were all different from yr to year. WOW
